JONESBORO, Ark. – Southeast Missouri baseball completed a home-and-home sweep of Arkansas State (13-19) with a 13-8 victory Tuesday evening. Southeast improves to 23-10 on the season.

It's the first time since 2011 the Redhawks have picked up the sweep of the series with Arkansas State. It's also the first time since 2001 and 2002 that Southeast has won in Jonesboro, Arkansas in back-to-back seasons. Tuesday's loss is Arkansas State's seventh straight.

The Redhawk offense exploded for 13 runs on 16 hits, led by three-hit, two-RBI performances by
Branden Boggetto and
Chris Osborne.

Jacob Lawrence earned his second victory as he improves to 2-1 on the season. Lawrence pitched six complete innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Bo Ritter (1-1) recorded the loss for Arkansas State. Ritter worked only three and two-thirds innings in the start, allowing four runs on five hits. The Red Wolves used six total pitchers in Tuesday's game including their Friday night starter, Tyler Zuber, who pitched one and two-thirds innings.

The Red Wolves touched home in the bottom of the first inning to lead Southeast 1-0. Joe Schrimpf doubled to right center with two out, scoring Tanner Ring who reached on a fielder's choice. A single and a walk loaded the bases for Arkansas State but Lawrence wiggled out of the early jam without any further damage.

Ryan Rippee led off the inning with a walk, the Redhawks' second leadoff walk of the game. Osborne stepped in and sent the first pitch of the at bat over the fence in right field, putting Southeast on top, 2-1. The home run was Osborne's eighth of the season.

Hunter Leeper and Osborne picked up one-out base hits and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by
Daniel Costello. Both runners scored when
Brian Lees tripled to left, widening the Redhawk lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning.

The Redhawks loaded the bases with no out in the top of the fifth inning. After a strikeout and a fielder's choice that forced the lead runner at home, a wild pitch plated Boggetto, adding to the Southeast lead, 5-1.

Arkansas State cut the Southeast lead to one in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two out, Ring doubled to right center then scored on a single poked up the middle by Schrimpf. Matt Burgess took Lawrence deep to right field for a two-run home run, slicing Southeast's lead to one, 5-4.

With
Dan Holst and Lees on base with two out, Boggetto lined a ball to center field. The centerfielder dove for the ball but it was immediately ruled a trapped ball, allowing Lees to score and putting Southeast back up by two, 6-4. Holst was out by an eyelash at home on the play, ending the top of the sixth inning.

Southeast loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. Costello hit a flare to left that fell for a base hit, scoring
Garrett Gandolfo while keeping the bases loaded. Lees drew a four-pitch walk to push in another Redhawk run, bringing the score to 8-4 heading to the seventh-inning stretch.

A three-run bottom of the inning by the Red Wolves made it a one-run game again, 8-7. Schrimpf drove in a pair of runs with a single to left. Jake Bakamus made it a one-run game with a one-out single to right. A pair of groundouts ended the Red Wolves' campaign to tie or take a lead, stranding a pair on base.

Gandolfo went yard in the top of the eighth, bringing the lead back to two, 9-7.

Southeast's offense put up a four spot in the top of the ninth inning. With two out and a pair of runners in scoring position, Holst singled up the middle to plate both runners. Holst immediately scored on a triple drilled to left off the bat of Boggetto. Boggetto trotted home on a single to left by Rippee, widening the lead to 13-7.

Justin Murphy in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final tally to 13-8.

Behind Boggetto and Osborne's three hits, Holst, Gandolfo, and Costello each scattered a pair of hits in the game. Lees finished 1-for-3 with a team-high three RBI.

Schrimpf and Burgess each had three hits for A-State. Schrimpf drove in four runs for the Red Wolves.

Southeast Missouri returns to Capaha Field for a three-game series this weekend against Eastern Illinois. The series will kick off Friday under the lights at 6 p.m.
