CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --Â Southeast Missouri (9-14, 3-2) split a doubleheader with Belmont (8-22, 1-4) Â Friday afternoon at the Southeast Softball Complex. The Redhawks won game one, 3-0, before the Bruins used late-game heroics to take the nightcap, 2-1, in nine innings.
A three-run third inning was the difference in Southeast's game one victory.Â
With two outs in the inning,
Harli Wheeler doubled down the left field line.
Claire Wernig followed with a double to left, driving in the first run of the game.
Danielle Turner capped the scoring with a two-run home run to left, her fourth of the season.
Pitcher
Haley Thogmartin  picked up her fifth victory. Thogmartin threw seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits, walking two and striking out six.
Carolyn Snodgress (1-6) suffered the loss. Snodgrass pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Savannah Carpenter led the Redhawks with two hits, while Wernig, Turner and Wheeler each chipped in one.
Southeast scored their only run game two during the fourth inning.
Brittany Stevens led off the inning with a single up the middle.
Nicole Deering entered the game to pinch run and scored on a single to right by
Riley Hayes. Hayes was thrown out at second on the play.
Belmont would tie the game up in the top of the seventh. Amy Zeronian singled to first base. Baylee Cook then ripped a double down the right field line. Jordan Spicer knocked in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
After a scoreless eighth, Belmont broke the tie in the top of the ninth. Sheyanne Meadows blasted a solo home run over the center field wall with two outs. The Redhawks would go down quietly in the bottom of the inning, recording one hit.Â
Madeline Krumrey (4-4) pitched all nine innings before taking the loss. Krumrey gave up six hits to along with three walks and three strikeouts.
Lexi Rouse earned her second win of the season in relief. Rouse worked four innings, allowing only three hits.
The Redhawks picked up eight hits in game two with Wernig and Stevens accountin for two apiece.
Abby Tillotson,
Mackenzie Hoelting, Hayes and Wheeler added a hit.
Southeast scored all four of its runs with two outs.
The Redhawks will close out their weekend with a doubleheader against Tennessee State Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., CT.
