EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --Â Southeast Missouri (1-11, 0-2) fell to SIU Edwardsville (9-4, 1-1), 6-0, Saturday.
"I thought we were much more competitive today," said head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. "We had some close second sets and really had a fighting spirit. With more experience, we will start getting some of these close matches."
Southeast fell in both doubles contests to open the match.
Mariya Kostiuk and
Anais Emelie lost, 6-2, to Mia Frogner and Madeline Hill at the top of the lineup.
Annisa Warasanti and
Ana Canahuate-Torres suffered a 6-1 setback to Lexi Aranda and Morgan Steffes at the No. 3 spot.
Isabella Krupa and
Mila Majtan were unable to finish their match.
Krupa (No. 2) and Emelie (No. 5) each took their opponent to a third set in singles play before losing by identical 10-6 scores. The rest of the Southeast's lineup fell in straight sets.
Viviana Ortiz did not finish her match against McKenzie Thomas.
Southeast returns to action at UT Martin on Mar. 24.
