COLUMBIA, Mo. - Southeast Missouri baseball (10-8) saw its four-game winning streak snapped Wednesday evening with a 13-6 loss to Missouri (14-6).
An eight-run fifth inning by Mizzou put the Tigers up 8-4 on Southeast. The Redhawks tried chipping away at the lead but couldn't overcome it in the end.
The Redhawks used nine total pitchers in the contest. 
Jake Busiek made his first start of the season on Wednesday. Busiek pitched four shutout innings and allowed just three hits with one strikeout and a walk.
The Redhawks and Tigers each tallied 10 hits. Southeast was led by 
Branden Boggetto and 
Garrett Gandolfo who each put up two hits and an RBI.
Southeast used its two-out production to score three runs in the opening frame. With 
Trevor Ezell and Boggetto on with two out, Gandolfo singled up the middle to plate Ezell. 
Ryan Rippee followed with a single up the middle of his own to score Boggetto and put Gandolfo on third. With 
Brian Lees in the batter's box, Rippee broke for second on a pitch in the dirt. The catcher saw Rippee break and threw down to second with no one covering the bag. The ball dribbled into center field, allowing Gandolfo to score and putting Southeast up 3-0 in the top of the first.
The Redhawks loaded the bases with no out in the top of the fifth inning, forcing a pitching change for the Tigers. Cole Bartlett got 
Dan Holst to ground into a 4-6-3 double play that also pushed a run across the plate for the Redhawks, widening the lead to 4-0.
Mizzou put up eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The inning saw five different Redhawk pitchers who issued six total walks and loaded the bases four separate times as 14 men came to the plate. The inning lasted roughly 45 minutes and had the Tigers on top 8-4 by the time it was over.
The Redhawks began to cut into the sudden Tiger lead in the top of the seventh. 
Hunter Leeper jumpstarted the inning with a double off the left field wall. 
Daniel Costello reached on a fielding error by the pitcher, allowing Leeper to move up to third. Ezell singled to left, scoring Leeper. Following a 4-6-3 double play hit into by Holst, Boggetto singled to center, plating Costello and cutting the Tiger lead to 8-6.
The Tigers plated five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to thwart the Redhawk comeback and bringing the final tally to 13-6.
Alex Siddle (0-1) was pegged with the loss as he allowed the go-ahead run to reach in the fifth inning. 
Matthew Wade pitched two and a third innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit.
Bartlett (1-1) earned the win as he was the pitcher of record when Missouri took the lead in the fifth. Mizzou starter Ryan Lee went only four innings, allowing four runs on five hits to Southeast.
Southeast Missouri will return home to Capaha Field to host Morehead State for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend. The Redhawks and Eagles will begin the series Friday at 3 p.m.
