NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Southeast Missouri (1-4) fell to Lipscomb (7-2) by a score of 5-2 Saturday night.
In doubles play, Mariya Kostiuk and Anais Emelie played in the No. 1 position against LU's Laura Kent and Melissa Kromer, but the match was unfinished. Isabella Krupa and Ana Canahuate-Torres played Hannah Gamage and Danielle Kinnen in the No.2 position, dropping their contest, 6-2. Mila Majtan and Annisa Warasanti closed out doubles action with a 6-2 loss to Hanna Victorsson and Katerina Kandyba at No. 3.
Emelie and Majtan both lost in straight sets in No. 4 and No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Kostiuk (No. 1) earned the first win of the night, beating Gamage in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Canahuate-Torres lost, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 2 position and Krupa pulled off a gritty three-set performance with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, victory over Kandyba at the No. 2 spot. Warasanti rounded out singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 setback in the No. 6 position.
"The ladies did a great job tonight of really fighting to the last match," said head coach Mary Beth Gunn. "Isabella won a tough three-set match and really kept the energy going for our whole team. She really listened and made adjustments from her match last weekend in Carbondale. Mariya had lost two three-set matches this spring and finally got it to go her way tonight. It was a big confidence boost for her, and I think it legitimizes her as one of the top players in the league."
Southeast returns to action next weekend when it faces Nebraska-Omaha (Mar. 5) and Missouri State (Mar. 6) in Springfield, Missouri.
