GULF SHORES, Ala. - A five-run third inning helped propel Louisiana Tech (1-0) to an 11-2 victory over Southeast Missouri (0-1) during the opening day of the Sand Dollar Classic Friday.
Southeast took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Savannah Carpenter singled home
Claire Wernig, who reached on a one-out double to left.
Louisiana Tech tied the game in the top of the second before plating five runs in the third.
Anna Cross led off with a double and advanced to third on an ensuing single by Kristen Miles. Cross touched home on an error before Taria Page knocked in Miles on a single up the middle. A two-RBI single by Katie Smith and an RBI by Karlee Jensen gave the Lady Techsters a 6-1 advantage.
Louisiana Tech tacked on two more runs in the fourth and another three in the seventh to polish off its season-opening win.
Preslee Galloway (1-0) picked up her first win of the season after allowing five hits, walking none and striking out two in six innings.
Madeline Krumrey (0-1) took the loss for Southeast, giving up 12 hits and 11 runs in seven innings. Krumrey struck out three and walked two, as well.
Wernig went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored to lead the Redhawks. Carpenter,
Haylee Krack and
Brittany Stevens followed with one hit each. Stevens scored Southeast's other run in the bottom of the fifth.
Cross went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, home run and three RBIs. She was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Southeast resumes play at the Sand Dollar Classic against Louisiana Lafayette (Noon) and Houston Baptist (6 p.m.) Saturday.
