Southeast Falls to UT Martin, 95-65

MARTIN, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri women's basketball (14-11, 7-5 OVC) dropped its second-straight game Wednesday evening at Ohio Valley Conference leader UT Martin (17-7, 10-1 OVC), 95-65.

Deja Jones put up a double-double performance in Wednesday's game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jones' double-double is the first for the Redhawks since she had a double-double against Central Arkansas on Dec. 13. Jones was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.

Turnovers plagued the Redhawks in the first quarter of the contest. The Redhawks committed 13 turnovers, mainly the result of a full-court press by the Skyhawks. UTM converted those turnovers into eight points.

Tied at six, the Skyhawks put up eight unanswered points to go up 14-6. Ashton Luttrull hit the Redhawks' second 3-point bucket to cut the Skyhawk lead to 19-11.

The Redhawks went scoreless the remainder of the period as UTM dished out 12-straight points. The Skyhawks hit six 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes.

The first quarter ended with the Skyhawks on top, 31-11.

Southeast and UT Martin went toe-to-toe in the second quarter. Down 26 points, the Redhawks went on a 10-point tear to cut the Skyhawk lead to 39-23.

Southeast didn't commit a single turnover in the second quarter and kept the Skyhawks to just three 3-pointers.

Bri Mitchell put up eight second-quarter points to finish with 11 total points at halftime including hitting all three 3-point shots she took.

Twelve of the Redhawks' 13 available players played in the first half. Three Redhawks had four rebounds each in the half.

Erin Bollmann single-handedly opened the third quarter with nine-straight points to open the period 9-2 on UTM and cutting the lead to 13, 52-39.

Luttrull hit her second 3-pointer of the game to cut the Skyhawk lead to 10, 62-52, with 2:58 to play in the period.

The third quarter ended with a good jumper by Adrianna Murphy. UT Martin led the Redhawks 70-55.

Southeast outscored the Skyhawks 25-20 in the period. The Redhawks shot 52.9% from the field in the quarter.

The surging Redhawk offense was quieted in the fourth quarter. Eight early points by UTM put the Skyhawks back up by 20. The Skyhawks continued to widen the gap as they outscored Southeast 25-10 in the frame.

Southeast fell to UT Martin by a final score of 95-65. UTM's 95 points is the most given up by the Redhawks this season.

Bollmann finished the game with 15 total points. She fouled out of her second-straight game with 4:15 to play. Mitchell went scoreless in the second half to finish with 11 in the game. Mitchell distributed a team-high six assists.

Southeast Missouri will bring its road slate to a close on Saturday at Murray State. The Redhawks and Racers tip off at 5 p.m. from the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
