JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Southeast Missouri volleyball (2-18, 1-5 OVC) fell in straight sets (25-10, 25-21, 25-12) to Jacksonville State (15-9, 5-1 OVC) Sunday afternoon at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.
After falling in the opening game, Southeast responded by jumping out to a 8-5 second set lead after a five-point run. In a back-and-forth battle, the Gamecocks eventually were able to overtake the Redhawks at 19 and go on to take 2-0 lead. SEMO hit a match best .178 attack percentage during the frame which saw nine ties and only two lead changes.
JSU went on to sweep Southeast behind a strong offensive showing, posting a team hitting clip of .329 for the contest.
Madeline Grimm led the Redhawks offensively with 12 kills (.267 hitting percentage) followed by
Krissa Gearring with 10.
Katarina Rotta tallied 28 assist during the match while
Jade Mortimer led defensively with 11 digs.
Southeast will return home next weekend to host Belmont and Tennessee State. Friday's match, Oct. 14, against the Bruins is the annual Houck "Filled" House event and is schedule for 6:30 p.m. while Saturday's contest against the Tigers is slated for 2 p.m.
