BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Redshirt-Freshman
Imani Johnson has been named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday morning.
"Imani has been able to come off the bench and provide us with great offensive production lately," said head coach
Rekha Patterson. "We are excited about the player she is and the player she can become as she continues to develop."
Johnson tallied 30 points in two games this week. She started the week off at SIUE with 12 points. Johnson followed it up with an 18-point performance against UT Martin at home Sunday. Her 18 points is the most she's had since putting up a career-high 20 against Tennessee State on Jan. 2.
Johnson finished with five rebounds in each game last week and contributed two blocks in the game at SIUE. She shot 40.9% (9-of-22) from the field and hit three 3-pointers, two against UT Martin. Johnson, who is a superb free-throw shooter, was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line last week.
The Lee's Summit, Missouri native is the first Southeast Missouri freshman to earn OVC Freshman of the Week multiple times since Sarah Miller won it twice 20 years ago in the 1995-96 season.
