Smith Takes 2nd in 100 at Prestigious Drake Relays: Blake Smith placed second in the 100-meter dash at last week's famous Drake Relays in Iowa. He crossed the finish line in 10.40 seconds, which is his second-best time of the season.
Redhawks Thrive at A-State Red Wolves Open: Southeast athletes had a strong showing at last week's Arkansas State Red Wolves Open. Ayonna Cartwright and Cheyenne Tunti led the way with second-place finishes in the 100- and 400-meter dash races. Cartwright posted the second-fastest score of her career in 11.83 seconds while Tunti finished in 55.70 seconds.
Carter, Martin Win Jumps at Indiana State Gibson Invite: At last week's meet at Indiana State, Blake Carter won the long jump title with a leap of 23'10¾" (7.28m) while Chris Martin won the triple jump by covering 48'10" (14.88m). Kayla Gutierrez added a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 182'9" (55.71m).
Trio of Redhawks Earn OVC Weekly Honors After Tennessee Relays: Three Southeast competitors earned adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors following the at the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray on April 9-11. Mary Dohogne was named Female Track Athlete of the Week after she ran the second-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase in program history in 10:56.38, which also is the top score in the OVC this year. She finished eighth out of 29 competitors. Blake Smith was Co-Male Track Athlete of the Week after he placed third out of 46 competitors in the 100-meter dash at the Tennessee Relays, finishing in 10.31 seconds. His sprint is the fastest in the league this season and ranks 14th nationally. Jason Walker was Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week after he finished second out of 22 discus throwers at the Tennessee Relays with a toss of 168'3". It ranks as the second-longest throw in the OVC this spring.
Redhawks Win 22 Events at Joey Haines Invitational: Southeast athletes dominated the annual Joey Haines Invitational at the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex on Saturday. Ayonna Cartwright, Taylor Coffelt, Kayla Gutierrez, Jarred Pasley, Blake Smith and Cheyenne Tunti were all winners in multiple events. Kevin Farley also won two events while competing unattached.
Smith Garners OVC Field Athlete of the Week: Senior Blake Smith earned OVC Field Athlete of the Week after successfully defending his long jump and 100-meter dash titles at the Joey Haines Invitational. His leap of 24'1½" (7.35m) is the longest in the OVC this season. He claimed victory in the 100 by finishing in 10.58 seconds, which is the third-fastest time in the league during the outdoor season.
Navarro Earns OVC Field Athlete of the Week: Senior Chris Navarro was named Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week after winning the javelin at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invite. His winning throw of 201'11½" is the longest in the OVC this season.
Kyle Named Initial OVC Co-Field Athlete of the Week: Senior Shon Kyle was named the OVC Co-Field Athlete of the Week following the first meet of the season. He finished fourth in the shot put and ninth in the discus at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays on March 21-22. His shot put throw of 55'1" and discus toss of 169'4" set the longest marks in the OVC this year.
Coffelt Wins Javelin at Alabama Relays: Junior Taylor Coffelt won the javelin title duriung the opening day of the Alabama Relays on March 20 with a throw of 137'2". She earned the victory over 23 other competitors during her first outdoor meet since joining the program as a transfer from Riverside CC in her hometown of Riverside, California.
Southeast Looks to Defend OVC Outdoor Sweep: For the first time since 2006, the Southeast men's and women's teams both won the OVC outdoor track and field championships in 2014. Following the conference titles, 17 Redhawks qualified for the NCAA West Region Prelims, which set a new program record. Kevin Farley and Kayla Gutierrez recorded top 30 finishes nationally with Farley finishing 24th in the hammer throw and Gutierrez placing 29th in the discus.
Redhawks Men Win OVC Indoor Title: Southeast Missouri's men's track and field team won its second consecutive and third overall OVC indoor title on Feb. 28. The men's team tallied 181 points to best host Eastern Illinois by 11½ points. The Redhawks women's program placed third with 98½ points. On the men's side, Southeast earned seven gold medals while the women added three.
"I couldn't be more proud of the way we competed," head coach Eric Crumpecker said following the victory. "The team stepped up and took care of business. It wasn't easy and we knew it'd be a battle, but they did it. This men's team is a special group of guys."
Crumpecker Voted OVC Indoor Coach of the Year: Seventh-year head coach Eric Crumpecker earned his second OVC Indoor Coach of the Year Award on Feb. 28. The 2014-15 school year marks Crumpecker's 24th year overall coaching at Southeast Missouri, having served his first 17 years under record-setting former head coach Joey Haines. Crumpecker was also named the OVC Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2014. He has mentored over 80 OVC individual champions, nearly 40 regional qualifiers and nine NCAA Championship qualifiers during his coaching career.
Smith Finishes 10th in the Nation at NCAA Indoor Championships: Senior Blake Smith placed 10th in the country in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13, registering a time of 6.66 seconds in the preliminary race. He finished just 0.05 seconds short of the final group of eight that decided the national champion.
Miller Qualifies for Indoor Nationals in Triple Jump: Senior Reggie Miller qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the triple jump, recording a jump of 52' 9½" during the SEMO vs. SIUE dual meet on Jan. 24. Heading into the national meet, it was tied for the ninth-longest jump in the country. Miller fouled out on all three of his jumps at nationals.

At the OVC Indoor Championships, Farley earned gold medals in the weight throw and shot put. He was also named Co-Male Field Athlete of the Year prior to the conference meet. Farley also earned Male Co-Field Athlete of the Year following the 2014 indoor season.
Holton Receives Initial Walk for Redhawks Endowed Scholarship: Junior pole vaulter Haley Holton accepted the first Walk for Redhawks Athletics endowed scholarship at the Power of Women Luncheon on March 12 at the Show Me Center. The scholarship was established last year with proceeds from the annual Walk for Redhawks Athletics, formerly known as the Walk for Women's Athletics. The renewable scholarship is given to an athlete with at least a 3.0 grade point average that has been nominated by a coach and exhibits outstanding leadership and community involvement. Holton is pursuing a degree in Education and is active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She volunteered at the inaugural Sibs & Kids Activity Day, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Missouri Recreation and Health Day and the food pantry at Cape Girardeau's Osage Community Center.

Included in the areas for evaluation are conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff, administrators and fans.
