CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Eighth Annual Southeast Missouri Walk for Redhawks raised over $50,000 for athletic scholarships Saturday.

A big crowd gathered for this year's special event which was held at the Student Recreation Center. The Walk for Redhawks, established in 2008, continues to grow, having raised $170,000 for Southeast athletic scholarships the last three years alone. Over the first seven years, the walk raised more than $200,000 combined.

"I'm thrilled with the event and that the day turned out well," said Southeast senior associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator Cindy Gannon. "I think everyone enjoyed themselves and came away feeling good about Redhawk Athletics. We outgrew Houck Field House and I thought the venue was great. This event is only as good as the people that you have that support it and work with you to make it work. I hope this event is something that is going to be here a long time."

Participants began their journey at the Student Rec Center and weaved their way through campus. A special presentation along with food and prizes concluded the morning. SoutheastHEALTH and several other sponsors contributed to this year's Walk for Redhawks.
