Spring Practice #2 Photo GalleryGoSoutheast.com is having some fun with the members of Southeast Missouri's football leadership council this spring. Although the Redhawks are often seen as tough, hard-nosed players on the gridiron, here is a lighter side to these talented student-athletes.
Our rapid fire series kicks off with junior offensive lineman
Garret Baker.
A native of Owensville, Mo., Baker started 11 games at left guard for Southeast last season. He was part of an offensive line that allowed just nine sacks, fewest in the Ohio Valley Conference. Baker also helped the Redhawks rank sixth in the Football Championship Subdivision in that category. He is one of three returning starters on the offensive line, joining fellow guard
Traven Mable and center
Jake McCandless.
Baker, who stands at 6-2, 280, redshirted his first year at Southeast in 2012. He entered the 2013 season as a starting tackle, but ended up missing the rest of the year after suffering a broken leg injury on the Redhawks first play from scrimmage at Southeastern Louisiana.
As a prep, Baker attended Owensville High School, where he was a First-Team All-Area and All-District selection. He also earned All-Conference and All-State accolades.
Baker majors in corporate communications at Southeast.
