BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Redshirt-freshman
Imani Johnson has been named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Johnson, a native of Lee's Summit, Missouri, averaged 14 points and seven rebounds per game last week for the Redhawks. The redshirt freshman shot .458 (11-of-24) from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
"Imani is starting to let the game come to her and she is finding success in the paint and at the free-throw line," said head coach
Rekha Patterson. "We are pleased with her progress and can't wait to see how she continues to improve."
Johnson recorded back-to-back double-digit point games last week. She narrowly missed a double-double at Lipscomb, putting up a career-best 18 points and nine rebounds on Tuesday. She finished the week with 10 points against Central Arkansas.
In 10 games, Johnson is averaging eight points a game and is a 37% shooter from the field. Johnson is a perfect 23-of-23 this season from the free-throw line in her rookie season.
Johnson is the first OVC Freshman of the Week since Kara Wright earned the weekly honor on Dec. 18, 2012.
