MURRAY, Ky. – No. 8 Southeast Missouri fell to top-seeded Murray State (26-2) in three sets (16-25, 19-25, 17-25) Thursday evening at Racer Arena in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
The Redhawks end the 2015 season with a 10-20 record.
"We didn't play to our potential today which was unfortunate after all of the hard work our players put in all season," commented Head Coach
Julie Yankus. "I want to thank our wonderful, dedicated seniors for all of their hard work over the past few years. Taylor and Haley will be missed."
Tournament hosts Murray State charged ahead early, stringing multiple runs together to take a 19-6 lead. The Redhawks offense began to gather momentum, but the early lead proved too much as the Racers claimed set one, 25-16.
After an early 7-1 lead by the Racers, the Redhawks were able to battle back to within four, 16-12. MSU was able to regain control however, jumping quickly ahead 23-14. Able to fend off Southeast's late set offensive effort, the Racers claimed the second frame by the score 25-19 and a 2-0 heading into intermission.
Another early rally allowed MSU to take the opening advantage 6-1 in the third frame. The Racers went on to finish the sweep of the Redhawks, winning the final game 25-17.
