Women Place Ninth, Men 10th at Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Southeast Missouri's cross country teams put together a solid performance at the Chile Pepper Festival Saturday. The women finished ninth out of 33 schools and the men placed 10th.
Southeast's women had another nice performance, as five runners finished among the top 100 competitors. A total of 436 runners participated in the 5k race.
Megan Parks led the way with a 43rd-place showing, posting a time of 17:34.77. Kaitlyn Shea and Angie Sumner took 56th (17:49.24) and 59th (17:53.27), respectively. Sydney O'Brien crossed the finish line in 75th (18:05.06) and Celine Rone placed 98th (18:23.16).
Natalie Kopplin (132nd, 18:37.05), Lindsey Seabaugh (162nd, 18:50.70), Rachel Hutchcraft (199th, 19:12.01) and Eilish Overby (19:35.40) rounded out the Redhawks female competitors.
Marc Maton continued his successful junior campaign with a 47th—place finish (24:50.28) on the men's side. A total of 466 individuals ran the men's 8k event.
Shane Brown (57th, 25:01.63) and Jaime Zarate (94th, 25:32.42) were Southeast's other top 100 finishers.
Meanwhile Dan Plunkett took 154th (26:03.43), Curtis Reed (205th, 26:32.85), James Kosbar (240th, 26:52.63), Jace Mortimer (262nd, 27:05.51) and Andrew Whitener (319th, 27:43.90) also ran for the men.
"Our women's team had another strong performance and the men ran well overall," said Southeast head coach Ryan Lane. "We are continuing to improve on the men's side."
Southeast travels to the Bradley Classic on Oct. 16, its last meet before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
