Redhawks Capture No. 6 Seed; Ties UT Martin, 0-0

MARTIN, Tenn. — Southeast Missouri and UT Martin played to a double overtime scoreless stalemate in the regular season finale Thursday. 

The Redhawks finish the regular season 8-5-6 overall and 3-2-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Skyhawks finish 7-10-1 and 5-4-1 OVC. 

With the tie, the Redhawks finish with 14 points in OVC play. With their 14 points, the Redhawks will hold the No. 6 seed in the OVC Tournament, which begins Sunday. The Redhawks will play at No. 3 Jacksonville State in the Quarterfinal Round of the OVC Tournament. 

Kindra Lierz and the Redhawk defense were on top of their game Thursday. The Skyhawks fired off 42 shots, the most an opponent has had this season. 17 of their 42 shots were on goal, also a season high for an opponent. Lierz's 16 saves is a career-high for the sophomore goalkeeper. 

The Redhawks and Skyhawks found themselves scoreless after the first half of play. UT Martin commanded the ball much of the half, putting up 12 shots to Southeast's five. The Skyhawks put six shots on goal, all saved by Lierz. 

Angie Mann led the Redhawk offense with a pair of shots, one on goal. 

The Skyhawks had three corner kick opportunities while the Redhawks had one. It was a low-foul half as Southeast was called for two while UTM had none. 

The 0-0 standoff would stand through the remainder of regulation and two overtimes. 

The Redhawks fired off eight shots, three on goal in the match. Mann led the Redhawks with three shots. In her first game back since Sept. 27, Natasha Minor saw 74 minutes off the bench with two shots. 

 Saphyr Coombs-James led the Skyhawks with nine shots, six of which were on goal. 

The Skyhawks had 14 corner kick opportunities while the Redhawks had two. 

Lierz (7-5-6) played all 110 minutes in goal. 

MaKenzie Crawford (5-9-1) also played 110 minutes and made three saves. 

The Redhawks defeated Jacksonville State, 1-0, at home on Oct. 18.
