CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Leah Duffe went a perfect 7-for-7 with four runs scored, a double, home run and six RBI, and Keaira Schilling tossed a one-hitter to propel Southeast Missouri (10-32) to a doubleheader sweep against Missouri Baptist (25-27) Wednesday.
The Redhawks won by scores of 10-5 and 13-1 (5 innings).
Southeast posted its first series win of the season in its final non-conference tilt.
Duffe fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in game one. She hit safely in all four of her at-bats, slugging a home run in the first and a leadoff double in the fifth. Duffe also singled in each of the fourth and sixth innings.
The Redhawks took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Duffe's three-run shot to right center. Savannah Carpenter walked and Haylee Krack doubled to right center before Duffe hit her third homer of the season with two outs.
MBU, after tying the game up in the second, took the lead on a two-run home run by Mariah Randazzo in the third. Randazzo's round-tripper gave the Spartans a 5-3 edge, their only lead of the game.
Southeast then pushed across seven unanswered runs to cap its 10-5 victory.
Run-scoring hits by Kelsey Gass and Lindsey Patterson, and a two-RBI single by Carpenter tacked on four runs in the fourth.
An inning later, Duffe scored when Gass grounded out to second.
Jamie Woodworth's two-run home run came in the sixth, marking the last of the scoring in game one.
Patterson (2-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Woodworth (2-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBI), Carpenter (2-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBI) and Duffe (4-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI) combined to hit .769 (10-for-13) with seven runs, two home runs and six RBI.
Aubrey Denno (4-8) picked up the win in relief, striking out four and walking none in five scoreless no-hit innings.
Schilling then gave up only one hit and struck out seven during her complete game victory in the nightcap.
The lone hit Schilling gave up never left the infield when Kelsey Snider reached on a bunt single in the first. She retired 15-straight after Snider scored MBU's run on an error.
Southeast pulled ahead, 3-0, on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first. Carpenter hit a two-run bomb over the left field wall and Krack followed with a solo home run in the same spot. For Krack, it was her team-high 10th home run of the season.
The Redhawks, after scoring three times in the second and once in the third, put the Spartans away for good in the fourth.
Duffe contributed an RBI-single, Krack scored on a fielder's choice, Meaghan Touchette knocked in Duffe on a base hit to left, Patterson hit a RBI-double and Woodworth drove in two runs on a single. Southeast erupted for six runs on seven hits in its big inning.
Schilling improved to 4-14 on the year.
Southeast matched a season-high 13 runs and pounded out a season-best 17 hits in game two. Carpenter, Krack and Duffe all had three hits. Duffe and Carpenter each registered a game-high three RBI.
The Redhawks conclude their season at home against Murray State this weekend. Southeast and MSU open a three-game series with a 1 p.m., CT, doubleheader Saturday.
