PDF VersionCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (9-6, 3-1) fell to Ohio Valley Conference leader Eastern Kentucky (8-7, 5-0) by a score of 7-0 on a chilly day at the Redhawks Tennis Complex Sunday.
Southeast saw a season-long five-match winning streak come to an end in its first OVC loss.
EKU won in straight sets at all six singles positions and won the doubles point to complete its third shutout this year. Kristina Labeja beat
Valeriia Kashina, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1, Amanda Faouzi followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over
Valeriia Nagovitcina at No. 2 and Melissa Gerritsen defeated
Ekaterina Donetckova, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3.
Saioa Oscoz, Milena Poffo and Marcela Jimenez posted wins in the other three singles spots. Oscoz took care of
Heather Robinson, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4, Poffo got by
Annisa Warasanti, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 and Jimenez defeated
Melissa Martin, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.
In doubles action, Labeja/Gerritsen beat Kashina/Donetckova, 8-5, at No. 1 and Faouzi/Poffo defeated Nagovitcina/Warasanti, 8-3, at No. 3. The No. 2 matchup between Robinson/Martin and Oscoz/Carmen Rodriguez was unfinished.
Southeast returns to action at UT Martin Wednesday.
