Doubleheader
Southeast's men's and women's teams will both be in action at Austin Peay Saturday. The women tip-off at 5:15 p.m., CT, with the men's game following at 7:30 p.m. It is the first road doubleheader the Redhawks play this season.
Series History
Austin Peay holds a 32-18 lead in its all-time series against Southeast. The Redhawks, however, won three of the last four meetings between these teams. Southeast took both meetings against APSU last season, beating the Governors, 86-84, in Cape Girardeau and, 108-81, in Clarksville.
Let's Do This
The Redhawks snapped a 14-game losing streak in Clarksville with their commanding 108-81 win on Feb. 28, 2013. A victory Saturday would give Southeast a win at the Dunn Center in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
A Look Back
Southeast had a season-high six players score double figures and knocked down a single-game school and Ohio Valley Conference record 20 three-pointers in its 108-81 win at Austin Peay a year ago. The Redhawks made 13 of their threes in the first half alone. Additionally, Southeast secured the No. 6 seed in the OVC Tournament following that win.
Corey Wilford led the Redhawks with 26 points and broke a Dunn Center record with eight three-pointers, while
Tyler Stone followed with 20 points on a perfect 8-of-8 field goals.
Redhawks Fall in OVC Opener
Southeast battled back from a double-digit deficit to take a one-point lead three times in the second half, but came up short in an 82-75 loss in its Ohio Valley Conference opener at rival Murray State Thursday. The Redhawks, who trailed by as many as 12 points, took their first lead on
Jarekious Bradley's three-pointer (59-58) with 8:40 left to play. Bradley, who led Southeast with 22 points, fouled out with 4:02 remaining. The Redhawks fell to 9-14 all-time in OVC openers. Co-West Division favorites Southeast and Murray State hooked up to start league play for the first time in 2013-14.
Langford Breaks Through
After scoring a combined eight points in his first three games,
Josh Langford came off the bench to pour in a season-high 17 points in 23 minutes in his Ohio Valley Conference debut at Murray State (Jan. 2). Langford made 7-of-10 field goals and drained 2-of-3 three-pointers. He scored 13 of his points in the second half and buried a three to give Southeast a 65-64 edge with 5:38 remaining.
Bradley Rises Again
Newcomer
Jarekious Bradley scored just seven points in the first half, but erupted to drop in 15 points in the first 12 minutes of the second stanza at Murray State (Jan. 2). Bradley shot 8-of-14 from the field, 4-of-6 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He buried a jumper to give Southeast its first lead of the game at 59-58 with 8:40 left to play. Bradley finished with a team-high 22 points. He made the game-tying or go-ahead shot in each of the Redhawks last two matchups.
Nutt Hits 500 Assists
Lucas Nutt handed out a game-high eight assists at Murray State (Jan. 2), and as a result, reached 500 in his career. Nutt leads the team and ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 81 assists this season. He is 19 away from getting 100 in a season for the third time in his career. Nutt needs 42 more to break the school's all-time career record, currently held by Dwayne Rutherford (541 from 1986-90). He has led Southeast in assists 13 times this season. Nutt did not start at point guard for the first time this season at Murray State (Jan. 2). He had made 48-straight starts at the point prior to that contest.
Johnson Gives Redhawks Big Minutes
Nino Johnson scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a team-high 33 minutes at Murray State (Jan. 2). Johnson shot 5-of-9 from the field and knocked down 3-of-7 free throws. He also had a block and two steals. Johnson's 13 points surpassed his total of 10 points over his previous four games.
First Half Leads
Southeast led at the half during seven of its first eight games of the season. The Redhawks put together a 6-1 record in those seven games they led at intermission. Since then, Southeast has trailed at halftime in six-straight contests. The Redhawks enter Saturday's matchup looking to bounce back after losing four of their last five games.
Mr. Consistency
Jarekious Bradley has scored 20 or more points a total of 11 times in 14 starts this season. Most recently, Bradley registered a double-double (27 points, 10 reb.) vs. IUPUI (Dec. 23) and netted 26 points and 10 boards at Missouri State (Dec. 29). He also scored 22 points in the second half against IUPUI and 21 points in the game's final 20 minutes at Missouri State. Most recently, Bradley started conference play by scoring a team-high 22 points at Murray State (Jan. 2). Bradley's eleven 20-point scoring games are presently the most in the Ohio Valley Conference this year.
Closing In
Tyler Stone is three swats away from becoming the fourth player in school history to get 100 blocks in a career. Stone (482-of-959) stands 18 field goals away from getting 500 makes in his career.
Nino Johnson, who ranks among Southeast's career leaders in field goal percentage, needs eight more to get 200 field goals made. Johnson has made 192-of-343 (.560) field goals in his career.
Rolling Stone
Tyler Stone, the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year, has scored double figures in all 12 of his starts this year. He turned in a double-double in three of his last four games, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds at Memphis (Dec. 21), 15 points and 15 rebounds vs. IUPUI (Dec. 23) and 22 points and 11 boards at Missouri State (Dec. 29). Stone ranks second in the OVC with five double-doubles this season.
Slow Starts
For the third time in five games, Southeast fell behind by eight or more points in the first six minutes. The Redhawks trailed Illinois-Chicago, 16-0, in the first six minutes on Dec. 14, IUPUI, 8-0, in the first 4:49 on Dec. 23 and, 10-0, in the first 1:25 at Murray State (Jan. 2). Southeast never led in regulation against both UIC and IUPUI. The Redhawks did, however, come from behind to beat IUPUI in overtime and took a one-point lead on three occasions in the second half during their loss to the Racers. Southeast turned the ball over a combined 12 times (6 vs. UIC; 2 vs. IUPUI; 4 at Murray State) in the opening six minutes of action during that stretch.
