CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (4-10, 1-8) earned its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season when it defeated Tennessee State (2-12, 0-10), 4-2, Saturday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Southeast improved to 18-2 all-time against TSU and snapped an eight-match losing streak in OVC play.
Heather Robinson beat Shardel Suber, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and
Jessica Courtnell took care of Attaliah Eiland, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Kryston Mason then beat
Sarah Uptmor, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 3 position before both matches were retired in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. London Thomas was credited with the win at No. 4 and
Nikole Novikova picked up the victory in No. 5.
Southeast capped its win with a sweep in doubles play. Robinson/Courtnell upended Suber/Eiland, 8-0, at No. 1, and Schaper/Uptmor defeated Mason/Thomas, 9-8, at No. 2.
Both the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles bouts were not played.
The Redhawks host Belmont in their final match of the season Sunday at 11 a.m. Seniors Courtnell, Novikova and Uptmor will be honored prior to competition.
