CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri junior forward
Tyler Stone repeated as a Second-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection Tuesday. Stone is the first Southeast player to earn Second-Team All-Conference honors in back-to-back seasons.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Stone leads the Redhawks and ranks ninth in the OVC in scoring with 15.3 points per game. He is averaging 7.8 rebounds, good for second on the team and fifth in the conference. Stone finished with over 20 points seven times this season and had a career-high 32 points vs. Central Arkansas (Dec. 8). He posted double figures in the scoring column 28 games, finishing as the team's top scorer in eight contests. Stone averaged 13.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in OVC play, scoring double figures in all but two league matchups. In addition, Stone is the Redhawks second-leading shot blocker with 42 this year.
Belmont's Ian Clark and Murray State's Isaiah Canaan were voted OVC Co-Players of the Year. Clark also won the OVC Defensive Player of the Year honor. Austin Peay's Chris Horton (OVC Freshman of the Year) and Belmont's Rick Byrd (OVC Coach of the Year) rounded out this year's specialty award-winners.
Southeast opens postseason play when it faces Eastern Illinois in the first round of the OVC Tournament Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., CT, at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. That game will be webcast free of charge online at the OVC Digital Network.
