Redhawks Host Eastern Kentucky
Southeast Missouri (1-6, 1-3) returns to Cape Girardeau to host Eastern Kentucky (4-3, 2-1) during Homecoming weekend Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., CT, at Missouri National Guard Field/Houck Stadium.
Redhawks and Colonels Meet in OVC Game of the Week
Saturday's matchup between Southeast and Eastern Kentucky is the Ohio Valley Conference Game of the Week. The game will be televised live on ESPN3. Kevin Ingram (play-by-play) and Bob Belvin (analyst) will call the action from Missouri National Guard Field/Houck Stadium. The last time the Redhawks played an ESPN game at Houck Stadium was on Sept. 11, 2008 (L, 29-27, vs. Tennessee Tech).
Homecoming Games
Southeast is 11-11 all-time in Homecoming games since joining the Football Championship Subdivision in 1991. The Redhawks are 3-4 in such games under head coach Tony Samuel. Southeast lost to UT Martin, 27-17, in their last Homecoming tilt on Oct. 20, 2012. This year marks the third time the Redhawks play host to Eastern Kentucky on their Homecoming. Southeast lost the previous two matchups, 35-21, on Nov. 6, 1993 and, 27-21, on Oct. 21, 2006.

The Redhawks trail their all-time series against Eastern Kentucky by a count of 20-3. The Colonels own a 10-1 record against the Redhawks in Cape Girardeau. EKU visits Houck Stadium for the second-straight year. The Colonels won, 31-7, on Nov. 3, 2012 in the last meeting between these teams. Southeast's lone win against EKU at Houck Stadium was a 40-21 triumph on Nov. 23, 2010.
Davis Approaches Record
Junior return man
Spencer Davis is four yards away from breaking Southeast's all-time career record in kickoff return yardage. Davis currently stands second with 1,935 yards. David Jackson (1983-86) presently holds the record with 1,938 kickoff return yards. Davis already owns two of the school's top-six single-season kickoff return yardage marks. He ranks eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference in all-purpose yardage (97.2 ypg).
Jackson Clears 100 Yards
DeMichael Jackson ran for 126 yards and scored his first career touchdown on a 27-yard run with 6:01 left to play in the second quarter against Eastern Illinois (Oct. 19). Jackson carried the ball 14 times, averaging nine yards per rush. He is the second Redhawk to rush for over 100 yards this season, joining
Lewis Washington who had 101 yards and a touchdown at Tennessee State (Oct. 5).
Special Teams Rise
The Redhawks scored two touchdowns on special team in their 55-33 loss at Eastern Illinois (Oct. 19).
David Smart rushed the middle and blocked Scott Weatherford's first punt of the game.
Justin Elias recovered and ran 29 yards to the end zone with 9:09 left in the second quarter. The blocked punt for a touchdown was Southeast's first in a game since 2009 (Andrew Adams blocked the punt and
Tylor Brock recovered in the end zone against Quincy on Sept. 3).
Spencer Davis then ran a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown with 1:26 left in the game.
Davis Named OVC Co-Specialist of the Week
Junior return specialist
Spencer Davis was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Specialist of the Week on Oct. 20. A native of Florissant, Mo., Davis had 167 all-purpose yards, including 126 on kick returns against Eastern Illinois (Oct. 19). He ran a kickoff back for a touchdown for the first time in his college career when he dashed 93 yards late in the fourth quarter. The 93-yard kickoff return was the third-longest in Southeast history. Davis also had five catches for 41 yards and scored the Redhawks first touchdown of the game on a 15-yard reception. He garnered the OVC Specialist of the Week honor for the first time in his career. Additionally, the Redhawks have locked up the OVC Specialist of the Week Award each of the last two weeks.
Redhawks Fall at No. 3 Eastern Illinois
No. 3 Eastern Illinois scored 27 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a 55-33 win over Southeast Missouri on Oct. 19. The Panthers ran 15 plays for 291 yards and scored four times in under four minutes during the game's opening 15 minutes. EIU finished with 665 yards of total offense, the most by an opponent against the Redhawks during their NCAA Division I era.
Garrett Notches Career-High in Tackles
Southeast middle linebacker
Roper Garrett turned in a game and career-high 12 tackles at Eastern Illinois (Oct. 19), his second start of the season. Garrett had 10 solo stops and a pass breakup. He was the fourth Redhawk to get double-digit tackles in a game this year.
About Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky, which was picked second in this year's Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll, comes to town on a two-game winning streak. The Colonels are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play this year, wth all three of their losses coming against ranked opponents. EKU's two OVC wins were against eighth-place Austin Peay and ninth-place Tennessee Tech. The Colonels lead the league in rushing offense (213.3 ypg) and rushing defense (93.4 ypg allowed). EKU is coached by Dean Hood who is 35-23 overall and 31-11 in the OVC in his sixth season.
