CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (10-7, 2-1) held a six-point lead at halftime, but couldn't withstand a big run in the final 20 minutes, as Murray State (11-3, 2-0) rallied behind Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel to grab a 74-66 win Saturday in a nationally-televised ESPNU matchup at the Show Me Center.

Canaan scored a game-high 28 points, including 23 in the second half, while Daniel contributed a double-double 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Racers.

Despite being held to just five points in the first half, Canaan heated up to shoot 60 percent (6-of-10) from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range and 8-of-9 at the free throw line to carry the Ohio Valley Conference West Division leader.

Southeast led for the first 29:25 of the game and held a 10-point lead (49-39) with 14:10 left to play when MUR went on a 19-3 run to take control.

Canaan buried three 3-pointers and scored 13 points to key that decisive stretch which ended on his own jumper to give the Racers a 58-52 lead with 6:55 left. He was also fouled while making his second trey during the run, but did not convert the four-point play when he missed a free throw.

After that, Southeast pulled to within three on three occasions in the final seven minutes, but that was as close as it would get.

"I thought it was a great atmosphere tonight," said Southeast head coach Dickey Nutt. "This game isn't going to make or break us. We controlled the game for nearly 30 minutes."

Nutt mentioned prior to the game that he wanted his team to come out a lot of energy and Jones gave Southeast a big shot in the arm.

Jones scored the game's first nine points on a jumper, layup, two free throws and a three-pointer. His three capped an early 9-1 run with 17:46 left to play.

After Ed Daniel's dunk cut the Redhawks lead to two (9-7), Corey Wilford answered with a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions.

Wilford's second three came out of a media timeout during a stretch where the Racers turned the ball over on three-straight trips down the court. The Redhawks capitalized by scoring seven points off those miscues to grab a 17-9 lead with 12:56 remaining.

Moments after Stacy Wilson chopped Southeast's lead to 21-18 on a three-pointer at the 10:28 mark, the Redhawks led by eight twice more before going into the locker room with a 34-28 lead.

"They came out and threw some punches at us, but I give a lot of credit to Isaiah and Ed," said Murray State head coach Steve Prohm. "They helped us withstand any run Southeast Missouri could make. We were fortunate to get out of here with a win."

Ahead 52-48 after Jones converted an old fashioned three-point play with 12:04 on the clock, Canaan knocked down a three to pull the Racers to within one.

Daniel then tied the game with a free throw and followed that up with a layup on his team's next possession to give the Racers their first lead at 54-52 with 10:35 left.

Canaan finished at 8-of-18 from the field and 9-of-12 at the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists in 39 minutes.

Daniel shot 6-of-11 from the floor and pulled down 10 of his rebounds on the offensive glass.

The Racers made 18-of-27 free throws for 66.7 percent, as Southeast was whistled for 24 fouls.

Jones led Southeast with 20 points, scoring double figures in back-to-back starts for the first time this season. He hit 7-of-10 field goals, 3-of-3 threes and 3-of-3 at the free throw line en route to his second 20-point effort.

Tyler Stone added 16 points and Wilford chipped in 15. Lucas Nutt had a game-high seven assists, as well.

MUR outrebounded Southeast, 43-29, and held a 16-7 advantage on the offensive end.

Southeast steps outside the West Division for the first time this season when it hits the road to face Belmont on Jan. 10.
