CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team fell to Eastern Kentucky 9-6 Friday afternoon at Capaha Field. The Colonels hit two-run home runs in the seventh and eighth innings to complete their comeback win.
The Redhawks drop to 8-24 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Colonels improve to 14-15 and 6-2 in the conference.
EKU jumped out to a 3-0 lead three batters into the contest as Jacob Daniel highlighted the first inning with a two-run home run.
The Redhawks got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as
Kenton Parmley extended his hitting streak to 39-games with an RBI single to left field.
After the Colonels would make it 4-1 in the top of the fourth, the Redhawks erupted for five-runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-4 lead.
The five-run onslaught was highlighted by a two-run single from
Derek Gibson as he extended his hitting streak to 16-games.
Redshirt freshman
Jason Blum, who added two hits on the day, contributed an RBI single.
Cody Spanberger also added an RBI single as the Redhawks looked in control after four innings.
But Eastern Kentucky added five more runs with a pair of two-run homers late in the contest as EKU took the second game of the series, 9-6.
Southeast starter
Ryan Kendall (0-2) went 6.2 innings allowing six earned runs on 10 hits.
Dylan Lynn threw an inning followed by
Ryan Prickett as he threw 1.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Trenton Moses reached base safely with a walk extending his streak to 52-games.
Brent Cobb (2-0) picked up the win for EKU going 3.1 innings with six strikeouts. Fyffe picked up the save for the second straight contest.
Six Colonel players had multi-hit performance to pace the balanced EKU attack.
Southeast and EKU will wrap up their three game set tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m., CT. at Capaha Field.
