Redhawks Hit Five Home Runs in 22-11 Loss to Saint Louis

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team hit five home runs Tuesday afternoon at Capaha Field, but it was not enough as Saint Louis defeated the Redhawks 22-11.The Redhawks' five home runs is the most homers in a game since they tallied eight on March 28, 2010 at Morehead State. The loss drops the Redhawks to 5-8 overall and the Billikens improve to 8-5.
 
The Billikens opened up the game with a 32 minute top of the first inning that saw them score six runs to open up the game as SLU sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning.
 
Southeast responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Trenton Moses put the Redhawks on the board with a two-run shot to left centerfield, extending his reaching base safely streak to 34 games.
 
Kody Campbell later drove in Andy Lennington on an RBI single to leftfield, who reached on a hit by pitch to cut the Billikens lead to 6-3.
 
SLU added four runs in the top of the second to jump out to 10-3 lead, Mike Vigliarolo highlighted the frame with a three-run homer.
 
Redhawk catcher Shane Blair answered the Billikens home run with one of his own in the bottom of the second blasting one off the scoreboard in left field, as the two-run homer cut the Saint Louis advantage to 10-5.
 
After the Billikens added a run in the top of the third, Kenton Parmley extended his hitting streak to 20 games and his reaching base safely streak to 28 games with a two-run homer to left center to cut the Billikens lead to 11-7 in the bottom of the third stanza.
 
The Billikens added three runs in the fourth inning as the Redhawks responded with three in the bottom of the fourth to make it 14-10 Saint Louis. Moses added his second home run of the season to centerfield that snuck past the glove of the Billiken centerfielder as the two-run shot pulled the Redhawks within five.
 
Parmley added his second of the game team make it 14-10, as his shot went to left centerfield.
 
After the offense outburst in the first four innings the run production slowed down, but the Billikens added eight more runs with the Redhawks adding one more as Southeast fell 22-11.
 
The Redhawks were paced by Parmley, who was 3-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored. He extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Moses was 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI and two runs scored, he extended his reaching safely streak to 34 games. Campbell also added a pair of hits and an RBI for Southeast.
 
The Redhawks used seven pitchers on the day. Patman (0-2) was tagged with the loss throwing a third of an inning. Freshmen Grant Davis and Will Spitzfaden made their Redhawk debuts. Ryan Prickett, Trevor Kill, Bobby Hurst and Cody Spanberger each threw an inning of relief.
 
Centerfielder Danny Brennan led the Billikens going 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI. Travis Parker (1-0) earned the win throwing three innings allowing on unearned run and two hits.
 
Southeast heads to Wright State this weekend to take on the Raiders in a three game set that is set to open up on Friday at 5:30 p.m., CT. Saturday's action is set for 1:00 p.m., CT., with Sunday's finale at 12:00 p.m., CT.
