CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri baseball team defeated Arkansas-Little Rock, 10-7, Tuesday afternoon at Capaha Field.

Starter Tony Zerrusen struck out six in five strong innings en route to his first career win. Redshirt-freshman Andy Lennington led the Southeast offense, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, his first career home run and two RBI.

Southeast (7-10) outhit the nation's second-best scoring team 16-8 on the day. UALR dropped to 12-5 on the year.

“It was an impressive day by our pitching staff against a very impressive ballclub,” said Southeast head coach Mark Hogan. “We got great production from the bottom of the order today and it was just a great effort by everyone."

The Redhawks wasted little time getting on the board when Cole Bieser scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.

Southeast tacked on four more runs in the third inning. Bieser started the outburst with a double to left center. After Moses was hit by a pitch for the 38th time in his career, Kody Campbell knocked in Bieser on a single down the right field line. Moses then touched home on a double by Lennington. Ryan Barnes followed with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left extending the Redhawks lead to 5-0.

UALR cut into the Redhawks lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Bryson Thionnet's RBI-triple highlighted the rally which made it 5-2.

Southeast, however, answered with four runs during its at-bat in the fifth.

Dalton Hewitt delivered a two-RBI single and Derek Gibson hit a two-run homer to right center, pushing the Redhawks lead to 9-2. The home run was the first of Gibson's career.

The Trojans, after scoring two runs in the seventh, made things interesting in the top of the eighth inning when Greg Garcia smacked a three-run home run deep over the left field wall to cut the Redhawks lead to 9-7.

That would be as close as UALR would get.

Lennington polished off the win when he homered to right in the bottom of the eighth.

Bobby Hurst threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Hurst, who struck out the final two hitters of the game, earned his second save of the season.

Lennington led Southeast with three hits.

“Andy has been playing well since opening day and he is a great young player that adds to our offense and defense," commented Hogan.

Five other Redhawks multiple-hits. Campbell, Gibson, Hewitt, Barnes and Bieser followed with two apiece. Additionally, Gibson and Barnes each added a home run.

Parmley and Moses kept their respective streaks intact. Parmley ran his hitting streak to 24 games and has now reached base safely in 33-consecutive contests. Moses has reached base in 38-straight games.

Zerrusen (1-0) was credited with his first win of the season.

Tyler Buckley (1-2) suffered the loss for the Trojans. Buckley allowed five earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Offensively, Garcia went 3-for-5 with a home run to lead UALR.

The Redhawks and Trojans wrap up their two-game series Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., CT, at Capaha Field. Left-hander Zack Smith will start on the mound for Southeast.
