Redhawks Finish Second and Fifth at OVC Indoor Championships

The Southeast men finished in second place and the Redhawk women finished in fifth

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southeast Missouri track and field teams wrapped up day two of the OVC Indoor Championships Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn. at the Gentry Center on the campus of Tennessee State University. The Redhawks finished second on the men's side and fifth on the women's side.
“I was proud of the way everyone competed, our freshman really stepped up and they know what the conference meet is all about now,” said head coach Eric Crumpecker.
The Redhawks had Three athletes earn First Team All-OVC honors on Friday. Senior Josh Uchtman, the 2012 Male Field Athlete of the Year took the shot put crown with a toss of 57'-11.75”, winning his second OVC Indoor shot put title of his career.
Freshman Jacob Kent the Co-Freshman of the Year in the OVC won the high jump at 6'-10.25”, a personal best at a mark that ranks ninth all-time at Southeast. Fellow freshman Jessica Brown won the women's long jump at 19'-0.5”, tying her career best in her first OVC Championship.
Saturday brought the Redhawks six All-OVC Second Team selections with four on the men's side and two on the women's side.
Freshman Kevin Farley earned a second place finish in the shot put on Friday at 55'-2.75”, a personal record earning Second Team All-OVC Honors. Fellow thrower junior Craig Robinson finished second in the weight throw at 61'-3.1”, earning Second Team honors. Uchtman finished third at 59'-5.4”.
Freshman Reggie Miller, Jr. finished second in the long jump at 47'-1.1” to earn Second Team honors and Blake Carter finished third at 46'-9.8”.
Freshman Mohamed Souleiman finished second in the 800 meter run at 1:52.54, a career-best. Souleiman shaved off four second from his preliminary time on Friday afternoon also on his way to Second Team honors.
Chris Loseman finished third in the 3,000 meter run at 8:29.24, fellow distance runner Alex Zisser finished fifth in the Mile run at 4:16.91, a personal best.
On the women's side junior Shemeika Brewer finished second in the triple jump earning Second Team All-OVC honors with a jump of 39'-6.3”, a season-best in the event.
Junior Jerika Lewis also earned Second Team honors finishing second in the 400 meter run at 56.29, a season-best in the event. She also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash at 25.18.
Fellow sprinter Angelica Larrier finished fifth in the 55 meter dash at 7.21. Senior Jessica Bollinger rounded out the day with third place finish in the 3,000 meter run with personal-best 10:11.60.
In the field events, school record holder in the pole vault Jill Schnurbusch finished third in the event with a height of 12'-5”. Sophomore Erica Grajales finished fourth in the event.
The Redhawks finished with 112 points on the men's side and 74 points on the women's side.
“We just got to get back to work and get ready for the outdoor season and we are excited to host the Outdoor Championships in May,” said Crumpecker.
Eastern Illinois swept the indoor titles for the fourth straight year with 196 points on the men's side and 149.5 points on the women's side.
