Redhawks Close Out Regular-Season Against Governors Saturday
Southeast Missouri (14-14, 9-6) closes out its regular-season at Austin Peay (11-19, 7-8) Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., CT, at the Dunn Center.
2012 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Field Nearly Set
Seven of the eight spots in the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament have been determined. Regular-season champion and nationally-ranked Murray State is the top-seed, while Tennessee State has a lock on the No. 2. Southeast, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay are also in. Meanwhile, Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois are contending for the final berth. The Colonels and Panthers face each other in Richmond, Ky., Saturday.
Southeast Goes After OVC Tournament Seed
Despite its loss Thursday, Southeast is still in position to get a No. 3 or No. 4 seed for next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. If the Redhawks win and Tennessee Tech loses, Southeast will secure the No. 3 seed. If Tennessee Tech and Southeast both win, the Redhawks would get the No. 4 seed. If Southeast, Tennessee Tech and Morehead State wind up in a three-way tie at 10-6 or 9-7, a composite tiebreaker -- record against tied teams -- will be used. TTU (2-1) would be the No. 3 seed, Southeast (1-1) would be No. 4 and Morehead State (1-2) would be No. 5 in that particular scenario. At any rate, the Redhawks will go to this year's OVC Tournament seeded no lower than fifth.
Tough Place to Play
Austin Peay, this year's Ohio Valley Conference preseason-favorite, holds a 31-16 advantage in its all-time series against Southeast. The Redhawks have lost 12-straight against the Governors in Clarksville. In fact, the last time Southeast won there was on Dec. 3, 1998 (74-65). The Redhawks have gone 5-23 against APSU since that win.
