Martavian Payne Signs with Southeast

Martavian Payne
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Martavian Payne signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Southeast Missouri in 2013-14.

Payne, who hails from St. Louis, is a three-year starter at Imagine College Prep. A 6'2”, 180-pound combo guard, Payne averaged 16 points, six rebounds and three assists per game en route to First-Team All-State honors a year ago.

Imagine College Prep went 23-8 overall and advanced to the 2012 Class 4 semifinals where it fell to Hillcrest, 63-60. Payne scored 15 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out two assists and had three steals in that game. The Bears beat Sikeston in the quarterfinals to earn their first state final four berth.

“We are pleased to have Martavian join our program,” said Southeast head coach Dickey Nutt. “He is strong, athletic, can create his own shot and has really good range. He is an exciting player and our fans are going to enjoy watching him.”

Payne is the last of Southeast's early commitments. Guard Darrian Gray (6-5, 185, Memphis, Tenn./Lake Land College) also joined the Redhawks on Nov. 26. Gray will enroll at Southeast this spring.
