MURRAY, Ky. - Duane Brady returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift Murray State (5-6, 4-4) to a 42-35 victory over Southeast Missouri (3-8, 2-6) Saturday in the season-finale for both teams.

Brady bolted for the decisive score after Southeast tied the game at 35-35. That run put the exclamation point on a dominating effort by the Racers special teams.

"When you look at the stat sheet, you will see that we had all the yards to win this game," said Southeast head coach Tony Samuel. "Special teams definitely hurt us."

Murray piled up a total of 336 yards on kick returns and ran back a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.

That was enough to overshadow a big day by Southeast which established season-highs in rushing yards (446), second-half points (29), total yards (537), first downs (31) and time of possession (42:00). The Redhawks also scored on four-straight possessions en route to tying the game late in the final half.

Drew Geldbach gave Southeast an early 3-0 lead when his 36-yard field goal split the uprights with 9:13 left in the first quarter.

Walter Powell returned the ensuing kickoff 83 yards to Southeast's 15-yardline setting up the Racers first score of the game. Three plays later, Casey Brockman threw a 7-yard pass to Ja-Von Trotter, giving Murray a 7-3 advantage with 8:01 left.

Geldbach missed a 50-yard field goal, before the Redhawks punted on their next possession.

Powell fielded Joe Vucic's kick in the end zone and sprinted 100 yards for a touchdown to quickly extend the Racers lead to 14-3 at the 9:09 mark of the second quarter. Powell became the first to return a punt for a touchdown against Southeast this season.

The Redhawks managed to cut Murray's lead to eight when Geldbach kicked a 46-yard field goal to make it 14-8 with 5:26 remaining.

Brockman's 13-yard run then capped a 9-play, 75-yard drive to give the Racers a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Powell returned three kicks for 200 yards in the first half alone, as Murray's special teams were the difference in the game's opening 30 minutes. Offensively, the Racers high-powered offense ran just 28 plays and was on the field for only 8:27.

Levi Terrell ran for 92 yards and averaged 8.4 per carry, as Southeast gained 189 yards on the ground in the first half. The Redhawks also ran 16 more plays than the Racers and held a +13:06 advantage in time of possession.

Southeast was forced to punt on its first drive of the second half, but had the Racers pinned inside their 1-yardline when Geldbach's first career punt was downed.

On the next play, Darrick Borum tackled Brockman in the end zone for a safety, slicing Murray's lead to 21-8 with 10:17 in the third quarter.

Southeast carried the momentum from its big defensive play over to its next drive, where it marched 48 yards in 10 plays to pull to within a touchdown.

After a pass interference penalty gave the Redhawks an automatic first down at the Racers 35-yardline, Terrell picked up 22 yards on four-straight carries. Four plays later, Southeast scored its first touchdown of the game on a 3-yard pass from Lathrop to D.J. Foster with 5:25 left to play.

The Redhawks trailed 21-14 following a blocked PAT.

Murray answered with a 6-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Brockman to Trotter. That TD, which came in just 1:10, increased the Racers lead to 28-14 with 4:15 on the clock.

Southeast, however, answered right back when Terrell hit paydirt on a 2-yard run to polish off an 8-play, 66-yard march, chopping Murray's lead to 28-21 with 21 seconds left.

Another score, this time a 14-yard pass from Brockman to Powell, put Murray ahead, 35-21, early in the fourth quarter.

The see-saw battle continued and Southeast managed to tie the game with back-to-back touchdowns.

Terrell broke free for a 35-yard run and followed that up with a 12-yard touchdown run five plays later.

Murray then punted on a 4th-and-1, and Southeast took over on downs at its own 12.
Lathrop completed a 35-yard pass to Foster which moved the Redhawks to Murray's 32-yardline before Terrell ran for 14 yards.

Ron Coleman later scored on an 8-yard run to knot the game at 35-35 with 2:55 left to play.

Terrell ended his Southeast career with 215 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. He averaged 8.6 yards per carry and posted his seventh 100-yard rushing game. His 215 yards rank sixth among Southeast's all-time single-game rushing performances. Terrell's 1,349 yards were third-most in a single-season at Southeast.

Lathrop followed with 119 rushing yards on 27 attempts. It marked Lathrop's fourth 100-yard game.

Defensively, Blake Peiffer and Tylor Brock paved the way with seven tackles each. Peiffer moved to third all-time on the school's career tackle list. He leaves Southeast with 359 tackles.

The Redhawks held Brockman under 200 passing yards. Brockman had just 189 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-26 attempts. It marked only the second time Brockman was under 200 yards passing this year.
