Southeast Kicks Off OVC Play at Tennessee Tech This Weekend
Southeast Missouri opens Ohio Valley Conference play at Tennessee Tech Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., CT, at Tucker Stadium. Southeast is 5-15 all-time in OVC-openers and 1-4 in such games under head coach Tony Samuel.

Tennessee Tech owns an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series vs. Southeast Missouri. The Redhawks snapped a four-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles with their 23-21 win in Cape Girardeau last season. Head Coach Tony Samuel is 1-3 vs. TTU.
Close Call
There have been some close games between Southeast and Tennessee Tech in recent years. In fact, four of the last six meetings have been decided by no more than three points. The Redhawks own two of the wins in those tight contests, beating the Golden Eagles, 31-28, in overtime during the 2004 campaign and, 23-21, a year ago. Both of those victories came at Houck Stadium. Since 2002, the largest margin of victory in a Southeast/TTU matchup was +12, resulting in a 28-16 win for the Golden Eagles in 2009.

Matt Scheible is on pace to become the first quarterback in OVC history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 2,000 yards in a career. Scheible currently has 1,735 rushing yards and 3,587 passing yards.

Spencer Davis is tied for third in the OVC in all-purpose yardage with 147 yards per game. Davis registered 242 yards on kick returns, 14 yards on punt returns and 38 yards receiving in two starts this year. He presently ranks tied for 24th in the nation in all-purpose yards.
Nice Run
Ben Kargbo's 24-yard fumble return early in the first quarter at Purdue (Sept. 17) marked the eighth-longest in school history. Kargbo, who transferred to Southeast from the University of Buffalo, also added five tackles in his first career start.
About Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech enters Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 2-1. The Golden Eagles picked up their first conference victory with a 31-20 win at Eastern Illinois (Sept. 17). WR Tim Benford made eight catches for 124 yards against the Panthers. In addition, the Golden Eagles held EIU to -6 yards rushing. TTU leads the league in rushing defense, allowing just 72 yards per game. The Golden Eagles also lead the conference with five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Dontey Gay is the OVC's top rusher, averaging 119.7 yards per game. Gay leads the league in scoring (30 points) and scoring touchdowns (5). Benford is the OVC's number one receiver with 105 receiving yards per contest. Zach Sharp has made a conference-best 13-of-13 PATs, as well. The Golden Eagles are under the direction of Watson Brown, who is 20-28 at TTU.
On the Road Again
Southeast makes its 10th trip to Tennessee Tech's Tucker Stadium in 2011. The Redhawks are 3-6 all-time in that facility. Southeast last beat TTU in Cookeville during the 2003 season.
