CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team concludes the regular season this weekend, as the Redhawks host Eastern Illinois in another crucial Ohio Valley Conference series.
Southeast is 29-20 this season and more importantly 11-8 in the OVC, which places the Redhawks in second place. A sweep over the Panthers guarantees the Redhawks a first-round bye in the conference tournament. If the Redhawks take 2-of-3, they can secure second place if Jacksonville State does not sweep Morehead State.
Southeast will send the same three starters to the mound this weekend. The three, Jordan Underwood, Jon Dicus and Brad LaBruyere will start their last home game of their respective careers this weekend.
Eastern Illinois is 18-30 this season, but still vying for a conference tournament spot with a 9-9 conference record mark. Mike Hoeskstra, Luke Bushur and Joe Greenfield will take the mound for the Panthers. They lead a pitching staff that holds a 4.25 earned run average in 394 innings this season.
Game one will begin at 1 pm on Friday, with game two following shortly after the conclusion of game one. Bluff City Beer Company will serve refreshments throughout game two.
Head Coach Mark Hogan will honor his 18 seniors before Saturday's game, which is sponsored by River Eagle Distributing and Buffalo Wild Wings. Free beverages and food will be served throughout the game.
