BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - For the second-straight week the Southeast Missouri State track and field team swept the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. Senior Brandon Colbert claimed the men's award and sophomore Jill Schnurbusch took home the women's.
Schnurbusch, a native of Cape Girardeau, made history on Saturday at the Mississippi Open as she set a new outdoor school record in the pole vault. She cleared a height of 12'-2.50" surpassing the previous record of 11'-11.75" set six years ago by Michele Jett and later matched by Audrey Harwood in 2007.
That height placed her fifth overall (her third top-five finish this outdoor season) at the meet which featured over 15 teams including five SEC teams. She also placed 13th in the high jump with a height of 5'-0.25'.
She owns the OVC's top height this season.
Schnurbusch became the first pole vaulter in school history to garner an OVC weekly award.
Colbert continued to dominate in the field events this past weekend at the Mississippi Open. He won his second-straight hammer throw title with a toss of 204'-0.00". It was his third hammer title in five meets this outdoor season.
He also placed 12th in the discus with a heave of 139'-11.00".
This is Colbert's second-straight OVC Male Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor and third this season.
For his career, he has claimed 12 OVC Male Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors.
The Redhawks men and women's field athletes have claimed nine of the 12 weekly field awards this season. They have swept the weekly awards four times during that span.
Schnurbusch will take the week off to prepare for next week's OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Colbert will compete at the prestigious Drake Relays starting tomorrow.
