THE TEAMS: The Redhawks are 3-21 overall and 0-13 in the OVC. The Redhawks have wins over Longwood, Culver-Stockton and Western Illinois with road losses to New Mexico, Kansas State, Iowa, Western Illinois, Bradley, Arkansas State, Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State, UT Martin and Eastern Illinois, a neutral court loss to Oakland and home losses to Austin Peay, Tennessee State, SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois, UT Martin , Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.
Eastern Kentucky is 14-10 overall and 7-6 and in sixth place in the OVC.
Morehead State is 14-11 overall and 10-3 and in first place in the OVC.
THE COACHES: Zac Roman is 3-21 in his first season as Redhawks acting head coach.
Jeff Neubauer is 63-54 in his fourth season at EKU.
Donnie Tyndall is 41-44 in his third year at Morehead State.
THE SERIES: The Eastern Kentucky series is tied 17-17. The Morehead State series is tied 16-16.
EARLIER GAMES: Eastern Kentucky beat Southeast 74-71 at the Show Me Center on Jan. 17. Mike Rose hit a last second 3-pointer to give the Colonels the win. Jaycen Herring led Southeast with 25 points.
Morehead State beat the Redhawks 73-67 on Jan. 15 at the Show Me Center. Kenard Moore led Southeast with 31 points.
**REDHAWKS NOTES**
REDHAWKS ON NATIONAL TV: The Redhawks game at Eastern Kentucky will be nationally televised on ESPNU with an 8 p.m. (CST) tipoff. Dave Weekley will do play-by-play with Mark Adams adding commentary. The Redhawks last OVC win was a nationally televised game on Jan. 29, 2008 when the Redhawks beat Austin Peay 121-116 in three overtimes. Since that game, the Redhawks have lost 20 straight OVC games.
WILLIAMS DISMISSED: Junior center Calvin Williams was dismissed from the Southeast basketball team on Feb. 6, because of a violation of athletic department policy.
MAXWELL STEPS UP: Sophomore Jajuan Maxwell replaced Williams in the starting lineup against Eastern Illinois and responded with a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds.
LOSSES MOUNT: The Redhawks have lost 13 straight games. The Southeast record for consecutive losses is 16 during the 1928-29 season. The Redhawks have lost a school record 20 straight OVC games over two seasons. The Southeast record for losses in a season is 22 in 2001-2002. The Redhawks have also lost a school record seven straight games at the Show Me Center.
MASH UNIT: Injuries continue to plague the Redhawks. Guards Hank Harris (Achilles) and Jimmy Drew (foot) have missed the entire season with injuries. Israel Kirk has a stress fracture in his leg and a broken nose.
SHORT ROSTER: The Redhawks will have only three players in uniform who played on last year's team. Jaycen Herring, Kenard Moore, and Johnny Hill all played last season. Jimmie Drew has not played this season because of a foot injury and Hank Harris has not played because of an Achilles injury. Calvin Williams was dismissed from the team on Feb. 6. Jajuan Maxwell played for the Redhawks in 2006-2007 but missed last season with a knee injury. Two walkons will be in uniform including Jon Watson, 6-5, and Brandon Smith, 5-11.
MOORE LEADS SCORERS: Kenard Moore matched his career high with 31 points against Morehead State and leads in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Moore, who has played all 40-minutes in the last three games, is shooting .412 from the field, .323 from three and .750 from the line. In OVC stats, Moore ranks third in 3-point field goals per game with 2.9, third in minutes played with 35.9 per game, fifth in scoring at 17.4 points per game and eighth in free throw percentage at .750.
RUSSELL HITS THE BOARDS: Junior college transfer LaMont Russell pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds against a big and physical Kansas State team. Russell averages 6.3 rebounds per game and leads the team in field goal percentage with .625. He had 10 rebounds in his last game at Eastern Illinois.
HERRING IS IRON MAN: Senior Jaycen Herring, 6-5, is tied with Mike Rose of Eastern Kentucky for the league lead in minutes played with 36.3 per game. He played all 40-minutes in five of the last seven Redhawks games. Herring led Southeast in the earlier game with EKU with a seasonal high 25 points including 2-6 threes and 5-6 free throws. Herring averages 14.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game
JONES AT THE POINT: Junior college transfer Bijon Jones had a career high 11 points to go with four rebounds and five assists in the Jan. 17 game with Eastern Kentucky. He played all 40-minutes in the season opening loss at New Mexico. Despite playing at altitude, Jones went the distance with 8 points, 5 rebounds and a team-high 3 assists. Against Longwood, he clinched the game with two free throws with 9.0-seconds remaining. Jones, who has started 12 games, averages 3.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and a team high 2.6 assists per game.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Calvin Williams, Jajuan Maxwell and LaMont Russell have all had double-doubles this season. Williams had five double-doubles with 22 points and 11 rebounds vs. Longwood, 24 points and 11 rebounds at Tennessee Tech, 20 points and 13 rebounds at Jacksonville State, 11 points and 13 rebounds at UT Martin and 12 points and 11 rebounds vs. Jacksonville State. Maxwell has two double-doubles with 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Kansas State and 15 points and 10 rebounds at Eastern Illinois. Russell had 11 points and 11 rebounds vs. Culver-Stockton.
BRACKET BUSTER PAIRING: The Redhawks opponent in the Feb. 21 ESPNU BracketBuster game will be Northern Illinois from the Mid-American Conference. NIU is currently 6-14 overall and 2-6 in the MAC.
AT THE SHOW ME CENTER: Southeast is 2-9 at the Show Me Center this season, but is 207-99 (.676) since the facility opened in 1987. The Redhawks have lost seven straight at the Show Me Center, a new Show Me Center record.
REDHAWKS HAVE ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Basketball Network includes Team 1380 Radio in St. Louis. The network operated by Mississippi River Radio, will be anchored by 100,000 watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston;, KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden. Erik Sean will be the play-by-play voice of Redhawks basketball with Todd Bonacki adding commentary at home games and Ron Hines adding color during the road games.
HOME GAMES ON KFVS12.com: All Southeast home games are video streamed free of charge by KFVS12.com. The multi-camera WebCast will be presented live around the world at KFVS12.com, and then archived on the web site for users to watch at their convenience. Both the live presentation and the archived versions will be available free of charge.
OVC SPORTS.TV: All Southeast OVC games will be video streamed on the Ohio Valley Conference's premium website, OVCSports.tv which can be accessed by logging on to the league's official website, OVCSports.com. Subscriptions are available on an annual, seasonal and per event basis.
REDHAWKS BASKETBALL WITH Zac Roman: Roman will have a weekly television show on WQWQ-TV, the Heartland's CW. The show can be seen at 11:05 p.m. each Monday night and is hosted by Heartland Sports Director Todd Richards. The show is also shown on Charter Cable Channel 11 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's at 8 p.m. It is also run on the KFVS-TV/Southeast Weather Channel (Charter Channel 113) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m
TUESDAY AT BEEF O'BRADY'S: Zac Roman will be featured on a live radio show each Tuesday noon at Beef O'Brady's in Cape Girardeau. The show on KGIR, 1220 AM, will run from noon until 1 p.m. and will be hosted by Erik Sean.
SID STREAK: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 846 consecutive men's basketball games. He has not missed a game since 1980.
NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: Following the games at EKU and Morehead State the Redhawks will return to the Show Me Center to face Murray State on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The final home game of the season will be the BracketBuster game on Saturday, Feb. 21 vs. Northern Illinois.
