CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Linebacker Justin Woodlief and punter Doug Spada represented Southeast Missouri State on the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Football Teams, released Tuesday by the league office. Woodlief made the All-Newcomer Team, while Spada garnered second-team accolades.
Woodlief, who hails from Santa Cruz, Calif., was Southeast's top tackler with 93 in 11 games. He also registered two tackles for loss, had one interception and forced a fumble. Woodlief started each of the last nine games of the season and registered double-digit tackles a team-high six times, with a career-high of 16 at Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 31).
A native of Shelby, N.C., Spada finished his Southeast career ranked third in the OVC and 15th in the nation with a 40.9 yards per punt average. He punted 49 times for 2,005 yards, dropping 11 of his kicks inside the 20-yardline. In addition, Spada had 11 of his punts travel 50 or more yards with a season-long of 57 at then-No. 23 Cincinnati on Sept. 12.
Woodlief is the third Redhawks player to make the league's All-Newcomer Team since 2007.
Meanwhile, Spada earned All-OVC honors for the third time in his career.
