CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University Director of Athletics John Shafer announced Monday that Kristi Ewasko has been promoted to interim head coach of the Redhawks gymnastics program.
After a national search was conducted, it was decided in the best interest of the program to promote Ewasko to the new position. Ewasko was initially named the Redhawks acting head coach immediately following the departure of Tom Farden on Oct. 19. Farden spent 10 years at the Southeast helm before accepting an assistant coaching job at the University of Arkansas.
"I'm excited to name Kristi as interim head coach," said Shafer. "She is familiar with the program and is committed to maintaining our excellence in gymnastics and academics."
Redhawks Associate Director of Athletics Cindy Gannon added, "I'm thrilled we have an assistant coach of Kristi's caliber on staff and I'm confident she will do a great job."
Southeast opens its 2010 season at Illinois-Chicago on Jan. 9.
