DeKalb, Ill. -
The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team is still looking for an elusive first win and first goal of the season after losing 1-0 at Northern Illinois.
Lisa Maier scored in the 51st minute to lift Northern Illinois to a 1-0 regulation victory at the Soccer/Track and Field Complex. The win moves the Huskies to 4-0-3, equaling the best start in school history (2004) and extends their unbeaten streak to a school-record 13 matches. The Redhawks fall to 0-4.
After a scoreless first half that NIU led statistically, Maier notched her first goal of the season off a steal inside the box at 51:21.
Lindsey Curnock preserved the victory with a brilliant save inside the game's final five minutes.
Senior Casey Kraft returned to the Redhawks lineup after missing the first three matches with an injury and led the team in shots with three, but the Redhawks were out shot 13-8.
Southeast returns to Houck Stadium on Monday, 7 p.m., to host Evansville in a non-conference match. The Redhawks open OVC play on Friday, hosting Murray State, 7 p.m., at Houck in a game that will be WebCast by KFVS12.com.
