Head Soccer Coach Heather Nelson Announces the Signing of Goalkeeper Gianna Logston

Feb. 7, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Monday, February 7, 2005) - Senior goalkeeper Gianna Logston of Neuqua Valley High School and club team Eclipse Select signed a national letter of intent February 2, 2005 to play soccer at Southeast Missouri State University under head coach Heather Nelson. She is the daughter of Bob and Jamie Logston of Naperville, IL.

In her sophomore season Logston was recognized on the 1st Team All-Conference (Upstate Eight). In 16 games she limited her opponents to 7 goals and earned a 0.44 goals per game percentage. She led her team to an IHSA Conference Co-Championship, Regional Championship, and Sectional Championship, prior to being eliminated in the State Quarter Finals.

In Gianna's freshman year, Neuqua Valley won the IHSA Conference Championship, Regional Championship and were Sectional Finalists.

Team achievements of the Eclipse Select 86/87's coached by Rory Dames include: 2004 Midwest Regional Leaugue Champions, 2003 U.S. Snickers National Finalists, 2003 Midwest Region II Champions, and 2003-04 Illinois State Cup Finalists.

In 2001, Logston was a Region II Finalist and National Finalist with Team Chicago coached by Barry Briggs.

Gianna's current Eclipse teammates, midfielder Jessica Kaiz and defender Megan McGrath have also signed letters of intent to play for the Redhawks.

Logston was a member of the Illinois State Olympic Development Program Team in 2002 and 2003. In 2002 she attended the BRUSA International Soccer Institute training camp in Sao Paulo, Brazil where she gained valuable experience and competed against the Brasilian Women's U19 National Team.

"Gianna is a young goalkeeper who is extremely competitive and has tremendous athletic potential," said Coach Nelson. "Her strengths include shot stopping, distribution, and the ability to read the game. She has been a dominant factor in goal for her nationally recognized Eclipse Select team. With the addition of Gianna and current softball standout Lindsay Pickering, goalkeeping should be a team strength."
