Gymnastics Drops Two in Texas

DENTON, Tex. - (Saturday, February 5, 2005) It was a difficult start to a three-meet road trip for the Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team. Facing No. 8 BYU and conference rival Texas Women's University in a tri-meet in Denton, Texas, the Redhawks lost to both teams scoring 192.250 to BYU's 196.125 and Texas Women's 193.225.

Despite the two losses Southeast (2-3, 2-2 MIC) had many top-perfomances, especially on the vault and the floor exercises where the team set season-highs in team scores, 48.300 on the vault and 48.475 on the floor, in those events.

On the vault five Redhawks either set or tied career-bests led by junior Tara Boldt (Lakeville, Minn./ T.A.G.S) who had the teams highest finish when she tied for fourth with a score of 9.825. That score tied her career best.

Senior Amanda Grimes (Lone Jack, Mo./ GAGE Gymnastics) set a career-high with a 9.725. Lexie Hein (Appleton, Wis./ LaFleur's Gymnastics) also set a career-best with a 9.650. Freshmen Jennifer Kaye (Brookfield, Wis./ Salto Gymnastics) and Mindi Lineweber (Lincoln, Neb./ N.S.G.) each scored 9.675 and 9.425 respectively to set personal bests.

Grimes led the team on the floor with a season-high 9.750. Alexis Traylor (St. Charles, Mo./ All American) scored a 9.725. Hein scored a career-high 9.675.

On the bars Kaye scored a career-best 9.650 to tie Boldt and Natalie Watts (Pasco, Wash./ Mid Columbia Gymnastics Academy) for the team lead.

Allison Ezell (Kansas City, Kan./ Alpha Omega) had the team-high on the beam with a career-best 9.625.

Boldt finished third for all-round honors with a score of 37.875 followed by Hein's 37.850.

The Redhawks continue their road trip when they head to Ohio to face two Mid American Conference schools with Bowling Green on Friday, February 18 and Kent State on Sunday, February 20.
