Two Southeast Players Headline All-OVC Tournament Team

Nov. 13, 2003

After a disappointing shootout loss to Samford saw an end to the Southeast soccer season, two players received All-OVC Tournament team honors. Junior midfielder Marla Gianino and junior defender Laura Hauskins were honored for their performances in post-season play.

Gianino and Hauskins were joined by nine other OVC players as all-tournament team selections. EIU's Beth Liesin was named as the tournament MVP and was joined by teammates Tiffany Groene, Sharyne Connell, and Rachel Dorfman on the all-tournament team. Other selections included Samford's Kelly Christoffer, Sara Geiger, and Marian Wagner and Jacksonville State's Dausha Hudack and Kim Peterson.

Gianino recorded the game-winning assist against Tennessee-Martin in the first round of the tournament as she assisted Molli Beard for the goal with a beautiful corner kick. In their semi-final game against Samford, Gianino led the team's offensive attack with three shots. She had one of the best opportunities for Southeast to win the game. Just three minutes into the first overtime, she sent a header directly on goal forcing Royall to make a diving save. Throughout the tournament Gianino played solid and helped lead the way for the Otahkians.

Also selected as an All-OVC Tournament team selection was defender Laura Hauskins. Hauskins had tremendous games against both Tennessee-Martin and Samford as she played solid defense, leading the squad to two consecutive shutouts.

Gianino ended the season leading the team in shots with 39 and dominating the team in assists with seven. Hauskins played tremendous defense all season guiding the team to eight shutouts.
