THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 5-7 overall and 0-1 in the OVC after losing to Eastern Illinois 85-75 in the league opener on Saturday night. The Indians have wins over Central Methodist, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Oakland City and Missouri-Kansas City. The losses have been to Arkansas State, Indiana State, Tulane, Southern Illinois, Arkansas-Little Rock, Creighton and Eastern Illinois. Eastern Kentucky is 6-5 overall and 1-0 in the OVC after opening OVC play with a 109-86 road win over Tennessee State.

Morehead State leads the OVC with a 2-0 record after road wins over Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech. The Eagles are 6-5 overall.

THE COACHES: Gary Garner is 87-70 in his sixth season at Southeast and is 334-234 in his 20th season as a collegiate head coach. Garner is 9-1 vs. EKU and 8-2 vs. Morehead State. Travis Ford is 20-44 in his fourth season at EKU and is 87-75 overall in his collegiate coaching career. He is 0-6 vs. Southeast. Kyle Macy is 61-88 in his seventh season at Morehead State. He is 3-9 vs. Southeast.

THE SERIES: Southeast Missouri leads the series with EKU 13-9 and has won the last nine games in the series. The Indians also lead the Morehead series 13-9.

LAST SEASON: Southeast swept the series with EKU winning 95-75 at the Show Me Center and 81-74 in Richmond. Morehead State won both games beating the Indians 59-53 at the Show Me Center and 91-75 at Morehead.

SOUTHEAST NOTES

Griffin Leads OVC in Rebounding: Junior college transfer Brandon Griffin, a two-time OVC Newcomer of the Week, is the leading rebounder in the OVC with an average of 10.3 boards per game. He also leads in offensive rebounding with 4.8 per game. Griffin is averaging a double-double with 11.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He is the 28th leading rebounder in the nation. Griffin had 22 points and 11 rebounds against SIU and was the leading rebounder in the University Hoops Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. He had 33 rebounds in the three tournament games. Griffin had 14 points and four rebounds against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 17 points and 11 rebounds against Indiana State and 14 points and eight rebounds vs. Tulane. Griffin has four double-doubles this season. Against 15th ranked Creighton, Griffin had 9 points, 9 assists and 13 rebounds.

Scheer Goes Over 400 Rebounds and 700 Points: Senior Tim Scheer has played in 77 games at Southeast and has 705 career points and 409 career rebounds. He is the second leading active career rebounder in the OVC.

Winans Selected 2nd Team Preseason All-OVC: Derek Winans, last season's OVC Freshman of the Year, was named second team preseason All-OVC in voting by coaches and sports information directors. Winans led the Indians in scoring (14.9 ppg), 3-pointers (53), steals (45), assists (80), minutes played (34.8) and was third in free throw percentage (.797) and rebounding (4.6). With 402 points scored, Winans ranks as the top freshman scorer at Southeast since William "Bud" Eley scored 465 points during the 1995-96 season. A 4.0 student, Winans is a two-time OVC Medal of Honor winner. This season, Winans leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and assists with 4.5 per game. He had a double-double vs. SMS with career high 10 assists and 17 points. Winans is second in the OVC in assists to turnover ratio, third in assists and ninth in scoring.

Roberts Leads OVC in Assist/Turnover Ratio: Sophomore point guard Kevin Roberts leads the OVC in assist/turnover ratio with 2.18. Winans is second with 2.04. Hence Has Career High: Junior Damarcus Hence scored a career high 25 points at UMKC. He led the Indians in the season opener at Arkansas State with 24 points and eight rebounds rebounds. He currently averages 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Hence is the second leading rebounder for the Indians.

King Provides Spark off Bench: Demetrius King has come off the bench to average 14.6 points per game over the three games prior to the SMS game. As a starter against SMS he did not score. He scored 17 points and pull down five rebounds vs. SIU. He also had one assist, one block and one steal. King was 4-6 from the floor, 3-4 from three and 6-7 from the line. He came off the bench to hit key back-to-back second half 3-pointers in the win over UMKC. He had 10 points and six rebounds. At Arkansas-Little Rock, King led the Indians in scoring with 17 points. For the season, King averages 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Golson Will Seek Medical Redshirt: Junior college transfer Reggie Golson will seek a medical redshirt after appearing in only one game this season. He saw his first and only playing time in the win over Oakland City. He scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds in just 14-minutes playing time. Golson was 5-9 from the field. Golson, who has been recovering from minor knee surgery in September, has not played since that game and will seek a medical redshirt that will give him two years of eligibility remaining beginning next season.

Grapperhaus Contributes: True freshman Cole Grapperhaus scored a career high five points in the loss at Arkansas-Little Rock. He played seven minutes in the UMKC game, pulling down two rebounds with no turnovers. On the season, Grapperhaus has played in five games averaging 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

Roster Addition: The Indians have added an additional walk-on to the roster. Lawrence Graves, 6-2 guard from Poplar Bluff, will wear number 30. He is a senior who attended Mineral Area CC.

Gary Garner Radio Show: Gary Garner has a live radio show on KGIR, 1220 AM, each Wednesday at 6 p.m. The show is hosted by Erik Sean and originates from Show Me's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.

SID Streak: Southeast SID Ron Hines has worked 646 consecutive basketball games at Southeast. The streak is the longest in Division I basketball. Hines has not missed a game since 1980.
