Soccer Team Ends Slump With Two Victories on Road Trip

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (October 9, 2000) - The Southeast Missouri State soccer team ended a three game losing and coreless streak by winning road games against Morehead State and Georgetown (Ky.) College this past weekend.

On Friday, Southeast (6-4-1, 1-2 OVC) handed Morehead a 2-0 loss. After failing to score for seven consecutive periods, Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.) put the Otahkians on the board at the 54:49 mark off a Julie Wunderlich (Fr., Jackson, Mo.) assist. Later, freshman Erika Todd (Granite City, Ill.) added a goal off a Thiele assist to close the scoring.

Southeast took the momentum from the Morehead game and never gave Georgetown a chance, as the Otahkians defeated the Tigers 4-0. All of Southeast's goals were scored in the first half. Todd struck first off a Brooke Nett (So., Troy, Mo.) assist. Four minutes later Jen Cross (Fr., Wildwood, Mo.) added an unassisted goal to push the score to 2-0. Valerie Henderson (Fr., Florissant, Mo.) would close the scoring, adding two goals off assists from Cross and Todd.

Southeast goalie Tami Hebert (Sr., O'Fallon, Mo.) gave the Otahkians much needed help in goal, recording two shutouts and making 11 saves in the two games.

The weekend games ended a four game road swing for Southeast. The Otahkians return home to face the defending OVC Champions, Eastern Illinois, on Friday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m.
