Sarah Shire Brown is in her third season as an assistant coach with the Southeast Missouri gymnastics program. Shire Brown serves as the program's recruiting coordinator and balance beam coach.
Shire Brown also handles all of the team-specific social media pages, which she started and has grown to include over 1,500 likes on Facebook and hundreds of followers on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. She assists in ordering team apparel, oversees laundry, packing before competitions and daily attire.
Outside of the gym, Shire Brown organizes all team community services initiatives, including monthly trash pick-up for Adopt-A-Street, Feed My Starving Children, Party 4 the Good food packing program, reading to elementary school students and collecting Box Tops for Education.
Shire Brown also oversees the annual summer camp by organizing participants, assigning staff members and running daily rotations.

In 2014, Shire Brown was named the Midwest Independent Conference Assistant Coach of the Year after the Redhawks claimed the fifth conference title in program history, which was clinched on the beam. Southeast went a perfect 6-0 in MIC regular season competition.

Shire Brown’s work on the recruiting trail has provided large recruiting classes with gymnasts making an immediate impact in the Southeast lineup, highlighted by 2014 MIC Freshman of the Year Alyssa Tucker.

During her first season with the program in 2013, Southeast improved its beam Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) by over two-tenths of a point.

A decorated collegiate gymnast, Shire Brown was a four-time All-American in only three seasons at Mizzou. She was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2008, Big 12 Gymnast of the Year in 2009 and 2010 and South Central Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2009 and 2010. Prior to competing collegiately, Brown was a member of the US National Team from 2002-05.

As a team, the Tigers experienced tremendous success with Shire Brown on the roster. The team finished in the national top-20 all three years she competed and qualified for the NCAA National Championships as a team in 2010, finishing 12th in the country.

Shire Brown was also heavily involved in the club gymnastics scene, serving as a coach and choreographer for Flipz USA since 2006. She has instructed children of all ages on fundamental and advanced skills, coordinated workout plans on all four events and provided motivation for developing gymnasts.

Before arriving at Southeast, Shire Brown spent one season as the Tigers’ director of operations. Her primary duties included coordinating team travel and recruiting assistance. She also served as a career coach, summer camp coordinator and sport psychology intern.

Shire Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Missouri in 2010 before gaining a Master’s of Education in Counseling Psychology from Missouri in 2012. She is married to Antonio Brown, who is an accountant in Cape Girardeau.
