Freshman Cayla Koerner registered her first career goal in SEMO's victory over Illinois Springfield on Sunday, August 21. Koerner, a forward from Mahomet, Illinois, paced Southeast Missouri women's soccer with five shots (2 SOG) over 52 minutes Sunday against UIS. She saw a pair of shots just miss the net wide in consecutive minutes before increasing the SEMO margin to 2-0 off a feed from Megan Heisserer at 79:18. Koerner also led the Redhawks with two shots including a shot on goal at 33:57 in the first period in SEMO’s 2022 season opener at Missouri on Thursday, Aug. 18. She saw 67 minutes of action on the pitch in her Redhawks debut. Through two matches, Koerner has registered 119 minutes of game time with two points (1g) and seven shots (3 SOG, .429 SOG %). She started in both of SEMO’s games this past week.
