Kaitlyn Shea was named the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Year Saturday as SEMO women’s track & field captured the 2021 OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 148 total points. Shea secured a pair of Gold medals and earned a Bronze. Shea won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in an OVC Championship record time of 10:23.48. Shea, the SEMO 3,000-meter steeplechase record holder, broke Cecile Chevillard's (Eastern Kentucky) mark of 10:28.80 compiled in 2014, Friday. Shea then won Gold in the 5,000 meters, finishing first in the second of two heats in 17:00.60 Saturday. She crossed the finish line 19 seconds ahead of the 2021 OVC Silver Medalist. Shea also finished third in the 1,500 meters Saturday for Bronze with a time of 4:33.11. She ranks 37th in the NCAA West Region for 3,000-meter steeplechase and 64th for the 5,000 meters.
