Sophomore Denzel Mahoney had a strong week, leading Southeast Missouri to two more victories. A native of Oviedo, Florida, Mahoney averaged 17.5 points per game and shot a blazing 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from 3-point range. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds per game and shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the field for the week. Mahoney opened the week by scoring 17 points on 5-of-7 field goals and 3-of-3 threes in the Redhawks 91-87 win over UMKC (Dec. 6). He made two of SEMO’s four free throws in the final 25 seconds to seal that victory. Three days later, Mahoney dropped in a game-high 18 points, including 14 in the first half to key the Redhawks 75-69 win at Southern Illinois (Dec. 9). He also answered with a big 3-pointer after the Salukis had pulled to within five points in the second half. SEMO won its first game in Carbondale, Illinois during its NCAA Division I era.
