Volleyball Wins Third Straight Match Saturday

MACOMB, Ill. — Southeast Missouri defeated Western Illinois 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-21) on Saturday. SEMO hit .267 with 36 kills and held the Leathernecks to a .044 hitting percentage.
The Redhawks erased a 12-10 deficit in the first set with six straight points, including kills by Reagan Nelson and Alaina Lester and a block by Lester and Lucy Arndt. Nina Schuberth added a service ace later as SEMO pushed the margin to 21-15, and the visitors closed out the set 25-18.
SEMO broke open the second set by winning seven of eight points from an 11-8 lead to an 18-9 advantage. Nelson's serve carried four straight points in that stretch, including a Nelson ace and consecutive kills by Katy St. John. The Redhawks finished the set 25-12.
SEMO erased a 7-3 deficit by winning seven of the next eight rallies, tying the set on a Nelson/Lester block and moving ahead on Schuberth's ace. The visitors later built the margin to 24-16 behind kills from Nelson and points on Leathernecks errors. The Leathernecks won five straight rallies before a service error finished Southeast Missouri's 25-21 set win.
