ATLANTA, Ga. - The Southeast Missouri Track and Field team heads south to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The meet will open Friday at 11 a.m. EST with the men's hammer throw and the field events will run until 8:30 p.m. On the track events will start at 5 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles and run until 10:10 p.m. EST. Saturday the events will kick off at 11:30 a.m. EST with multiple field events and the track events will fire off at noon EST.
Along with the Georgia Tech Invite,
Nova Ojutkangas will be competing in the 10,000-meters at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Last Time Out
The Redhawks competed in the Joe Walker Invite in Oxford, Mississippi and earned three event titles.
Kennedy Zgaynor took the javelin throw with a personal best mark of 155-4.
Liberty Blackburn also added the women's high jump title clearing 5-7 and
Alaina Lester also tpped the charts in the triple jump with a personal bets mark of 40-0.75.
The rest of the meet was filled with high finishes and 18 new personal best marks.
OVC Athletes of the Week
The Redhawks swept the male athlete of the week awards for the second straight week.
Cole Reinders earned track athlete of the week after his new personal best and second-best time in school history in the 800m in 1:48.37. It was the second consecutive week that Reinders earned the award.
Jake Cannon set a new best pole vault clearing 17-0 to earn Male Field Athlete of the Week. He is the fourth pole vaulter in program history to reach the 17-0 mark.
Zavier Winton earned Male Freshman of the week after his new PR in the hammer throw to claim a 4
th place finish.
OVC Rankings
The Redhawks are scattered around the OVC charts halfway through the outdoor season. The SEMO women have eight athletes at the top of the charts. Madalyn Gray leads the conference in the 1500m, and
Anna Thomason leads in the 100m hurdles along with the pentathlon. Joining those seniors are
Liberty Blackburn in the high jump,
Andreese Ortiz in the shot put and the discus and
Alyssa Repke in the hammer. The 4x400m relay above also leads in that event.
On the men's side there are six events that the Redhawks currently top the charts.
Cole Reinders leads in the 800m,
Jacob Blassingame leads in the 3000m steeplechase,
John Hartmann leads in the high jump,
Jake Cannon leads in the pole vault, and
Zavier Winton tops the Discus and Hammer throws.
