MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southeast Missouri Track and Field teams open its outdoor season Friday and Saturday at the Rhodes Invite.
The meet will take place start Friday with the hammer throw, triple jump and javelin throws at 3 p.m. The running events will fire off at 5:30 p.m. with four heats of the 5k followed by the 4x800m relay and wrapping up with the 10k.
Saturday the field events start at 9:30 a.m. followed by the running events at 11:30 a.m.
Indoor Recap
The Redhawks had a successful indoor season that saw five school records broken throughout the season along with sweeping the OVC Championships for the first time in program history. At the OVC Championships the Redhawks had 10 event winners and the women's team scored 165 points ahead of Eastern Illinois's 110 and the men scored 134.5 ahead of Little Rock's 96.
These OVC Championships were the first of the athletics season for SEMO.
SEMO also had a great showing in the indoor season awards with head coach
Eric Crumpecker taking home both women's and men's coach of the year,
Nova Ojutkangas earned co-female track athlete of the year,
Marshall Swadley won Male Field Athlete of the year, and
Anna Thomason won Female Field Athlete of the Year.
Season Preview
The Redhawks will travel to the Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Mississippi for a three-day meet March 26-28 before hosting its only home meet with the Joey Haines Invite April 3-4. After the home meet the squads will travel back to the Magnolia State to compete in the Joe Walker Invite in Oxford, Mississippi (Apr. 10-11). Up next is the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia (Apr. 17-18) before heading down to Fayetteville Arkansas for the John McDonnell Invite (Apr. 23-24). In the second half of the season SEMO will travel back to Memphis for the Memphis Invitational (May 1-2) and then wrap up the regular season in Bloomington, Indiana with the Billy Hayes Invite (May 8). The OVC Championships follow May 14-16 in Little Rock, Arkansas, ahead of the NCAA West Preliminary regional May 27-30. The season will wrap up with the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene Oregon June 10-13.
