Redhawks Beat Jackson State, 9-6, at Lion Invitational Friday

COMMERCE, Texas – Kinley Wilkins went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and career-high four RBI to lead Southeast Missouri (2-6) to a 9-6 win over Southwestern Athletic Conference member Jackson State (4-3) Friday at the Lion Invitational.

SEMO registered a season-high nine runs in the game and collected double-digit hits for the second time in three games.

Down, 5-2, the Redhawks rallied for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead and never turned back.

Addisyn Martinie started things off with a one-out double, Sophie Schupp walked and Brittany Affolter singled to load the bases. Kamden Hutton followed with a two-RBI single to score both Martinie and Schupp.

Madison Winkler singled through the right side and Affolter scored to tie the game before Wilkins belted a two-out, two-RBI double to center giving SEMO a 7-5 advantage.

After JSU pulled within a run in the top of the fifth, the Redhawks countered with run of their own in the bottom half of that inning.

Schupp ripped a two-out single up the middle to score pinch-runner Lily Delmain. Delmain ran for Gracie Luna who doubled down the left field line earlier in the frame.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Raigan Brannon launched her first career home run over the left field wall to put the exclamation point on the victory.

Brooklyn Saysoff (1-0) picked up her first career win in the circle. Saysoff allowed just one run on five hits and struck out two in 4.2 relief innings.

Maddie Carney pitched a perfect seventh inning to nail down her first save. For Carney, it was also the fourth save of her career.

Madison McDowell (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season. McDowell walked two, gave up seven runs and scattered seven hits in two innings.

SEMO finished with 11 hits on the day.

Winkler and Brannon went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI to join Wilkins with multiple hits. Hutton added two RBI and two runs scored.

All but four of the Redhawks hits came from the top four spots in their lineup.

SEMO wraps up tournament play in Texas with two more games Saturday. The Redhawks face Marist at 9 a.m. and Missouri State at 1:30 p.m., CT.
